A proposal (abstract of the proposed presentation), not exceeding 300 words, together with names and full contact addresses (including email address) of conference presenter(s), should arrive no later than 15 February 2012.

Proposals will be subject to peer review, after which applicants will receive a response from the organising committee.

The total time available for each presentation will be a maximum of 20 minutes. Presentations should relate to the overall theme of the conference, and may be based on research or other projects already completed, information about on-going programmes or ideas for innovative schemes or topics for future exploration.

AIE Statement of Purpose

The Alliance for International Education brings together all those who are committed to advancing international and intercultural understanding through education.
It promotes collaborative ventures that enhance the learning of relevant concepts,
skills and values.

Proposals

All proposals and presentations should be in English or Arabic; limited simultaneous translation services will be available. Only one proposal will be accepted per presenter, though joint presentations are possible.

Proposals will be welcomed in the following themes, though alternative topics within the conference theme will also be considered.

Main Conference themes

  • Leadership and management: How can different leadership/management styles and techniques enhance intercultural understanding?
  • Pedagogy: How can different teaching styles and techniques enhance intercultural understanding? How can professional development provide support?
  • Curriculum: How can intercultural understanding be promoted through national and international curriculum innovation?
  • Technology: How can we use technology to support intercultural understanding? (eg through the curriculum, through service projects, through international connections)
  • Local and global citizenship: How can we promote intercultural understanding through local and global citizenship programmes? (including understanding of sustainability, and social issues)
  • Regional and global developments: What regional and global developments are positively impacting the promotion of intercultural understanding through education?
  • Quality Assurance: How can we ensure quality in systems for promoting intercultural understanding? (including accreditation, inspection, authorisation, evaluation of school-based work)
  • Language: How do political, societal and organisational language policies and approaches support intercultural understanding?
  • Assessing/evaluating intercultural competence: How can intercultural understanding be assessed/evaluated with validity?
  • Community building: How can partnerships be developed in such a way as to promote intercultural understanding?
