EDUCATION PROJECTS: JULY 27th

ALLEN COUNTY SCHOOLS: BACK TO SCHOOL BASH @ ACS SCHOOL CAMPUS (ACIC)

Employees from J.M. Smucker Company will be assisting with this Bash; more volunteers are needed

Project Description: 20 to 25 volunteers needed to help with hosting a Back to School Bash for the community from 5pm – 7pm (must sign up by July 15th); 2016 marks the 8th year for the Bash. Community partners/ businesses are invited to participate in hopes they will see the needs of the children. Volunteers will need patience, kindness, food handling experience and a willingness to take time to talk to the children; the children and families deeply appreciate the attention they are given on this special day; volunteers are needed to help provide direction to families who attend to receive supplies; minimum age for volunteers is 15. Local businesses are needed to help with supplies drives for donations of school supplies including: backpacks, single subject spiral bound notebooks, glue sticks, rulers, pencil pouches, lunch boxes, crayons, pocket folders, colored pencils, etc. Prior to the Day of Caring, all of the collected supplies will need to be delivered to the Allen County Intermediate Center and volunteers are needed to help prepare the room for the children’s arrival. In case of inclement weather, the bash will be held in the ACIC gym. The following are examples of services that businesses/ individuals can also volunteer to offer as part of the Bash:

STUFF THE BUS PROJECT – MANAGE COLLECTIONS AT BUS

Details: An Allen County school bus will be parked at a specified location in Scottsville (TBD) and the goal is to fill the bus with as many school supplies that can be packed into it. 20-25 volunteers are needed to take turns in shifts and “man” the bus from 10am – 4pm. Volunteers will be accepting donations of school supplies, back-packs, personal care items, and other non-perishable items to be used in the community with local non-profits and for the Allen County Back to School Bash.

Minimum age: 16

STUFF THE BUS PROJECT – SUPPLIES DRIVES

Details: An Allen County school bus will be parked at a specified location in Scottsville (TBD) and the goal is to fill the bus with as many school supplies that can be packed into it. Companies, businesses, and individuals are needed to collect donations of school supplies, back-packs, personal care items, and other non-perishable items to be used in the community with local non-profits and for the Allen County Back to School Bash. Donations will need to be delivered to the bus during the specified time previously mentioned. Companies will be responsible for promoting the drive within their companies, setting up a spot for donation collections, and delivering items.

INCOME PROJECTS: AUGUST 10TH

JOB FAIR/ RECRUITMENT EVENT BY SCOTTSVILLE/ ALLEN COUNTY IDA

Details: 10 volunteers are needed on the Income Day of Caring(August 10th)to assist with a recruitment event in downtown Scottsville/ Allen County at the Allen County Co-operative Extension Center (200 E Main Street) from 8am – noon. All Industry, Healthcare, Banks, and Food Service representatives are invited to attend with the hope to match potential employees with a job. Each participant will need to supply their own supplies. Minimum age of volunteers is 18. Must sign up by July 15th.

HEALTH PROJECTS: AUGUST 24th

ALLEN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION: CAL TURNER ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Details: 10 – 15 volunteers needed at 456 Burnley Road from 2pm – 3pm on the Health Day of Caring (August 24th) to assist with an Ice Cream Social for the residents of Cal Turner in the nursing home cafeteria. Supplies requested include bowls, spoons, napkins, ice cream, and toppings.

SAFETY NET PROJECTS: AUGUST 31ST

COMMUNITY OF SCOTTSVILLE/ ALLEN COUNTY 2-1-1 FIRST CALL FOR HELP

Details: 25 – 35 volunteers are needed on the Safety Net Day of Caring (August 31st) from noon – 1pm and 3pm – 4pm to hand out water at 4-way stops w/ wraps introducing 2-1-1 as “Your First Call for Help.” Bottle wraps and bottled waters are requested to assist with this project. In case of inclement weather, project will be moved indoors to a local grocery store. Minimum age of volunteers is 15. Volunteers must sign up by August 15th.

BUILDING MINI FREE LIBRARIES

Volunteers from The Peoples Bank will be completing this project

Volunteers are needed to conduct internal drives to collect children’s books and find a ‘holder’ for the books (example: newspaper stand or build one) to set up mini free libraries at local businesses where children can take books as needed.

EDUCATION PROJECTS: JULY 27th

CHILDREN’S BOOKS SUPPLIES DRIVES

Volunteers from Camping World will be volunteering; more volunteers are welcome to join!

Details: Businesses, companies, organizations, churches, and groups are needed to conduct internal drives to collected new and gently used children’s books for the earliest of readers up to the fifth grade and everything in between! Collected donations will need to be dropped off at the Housing Authority of Morgantown (300 Kent Manor, Morgantown, KY) between noon and 1pm on the Education Day of Caring, July 27th. The collected books will be distributed as part of the ‘Inspire a Child!’ Day of Caring project listed below.

INSPIRE A CHILD! PROJECT

Volunteers from Trace Die Cast will be volunteering; more volunteers are welcome to join!

Details: 10-20 volunteers are needed on the Education Day of Caring (July 27th) from noon – 3pm to assist with the collection and organization of new and gently used books referenced above in the Children’s Book Supplies Drives project from noon – 1pm and then to assist with the distribution of those books and hosting activities from 1pm – 3pm all at the Housing Authority of Morgantown. Volunteers will need to plan ahead of time for what educational activities they would like to bring including all needed supplies to interact with the children who attend this project. Volunteers are needed to assist with a book reading in the middle of the activities around 2pm with the children. Volunteers are also needed to donate refreshments for up to 25 children in attendance including items like juice boxes, bottled water, crackers, etc. Volunteers are also needed to assist prior to this project with the creation and distribution of promotional materials to promote the event to local families across Butler County to encourage them to attend.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

United Way Day of Caring School Supply Drive will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Hart County Public Schools’ Central Office. School supplies and books will be collected to help assist the students in Hart County School District. The donations will be collected from 8:00am – 3:00pm.

LOGAN COUNTY

EDUCATION PROJECTS: JULY 27th

60 DAYS OF CARING DRIVE

Volunteers from the Electric Plant Board will be holding a drive; more volunteers are welcome to join!

Businesses, companies, groups, churches, etc. - are needed to hold drives for the 60 Days of Caring by collecting items in support of each of United Way’s four-focus areas during the month of July. Once you have collected your items, drop them off at the Electric Plant Board office in Russellville on Wednesday, July 27th. The items will then be distributed through agencies in Logan County.

Supplies requested: EDUCATION: new and gently used children’s books; SAFETY NET: canned food item; HEALTH: socks; and INCOME: office supplies.

HEALTH PROJECTS: AUGUST 24th

LOGAN ALUMINUM FISHING TOURNAMENT AND COOKOUT

Volunteers from Logan Aluminum, U.S. Bank, Ventra Plastics, Auburn Banking Company and the participating organizations will be volunteering; no volunteer slots available

Details: 50-100 volunteers needed to assist with a Fishing Tournament and Cookout hosted by and at Logan Aluminum from 8am – noon for clients of ARC of Logan County, Active Day, and Auburn Banking Company. This project impacts the health of the participants by providing them an enrichment activity that may be too difficult for them to do by themselves. Logan Aluminum will provide: fish, fishing poles, bait, trophies, food, water. In case of inclement weather, this event will be postponed one day. NOTE: This activity is outdoors in August and it will be HOT! Volunteers should be prepared for the heat!

SIMPSON COUNTY

HEALTH PROJECTS: AUGUST 24th

FRANKLIN SIMPSON NURSING AND REHABILITATION: SENIOR RESIDENTS VISITING DAY

Details: Any number of volunteers are needed to complete this indoor project on the Health Day of Caring (August 24th) at the Franklin Simpson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center anytime from 10am – 4pm for as little or as long as the volunteers would like. Volunteers are needed to visit with the senior residents at the center. It is completely up to each individual and group of volunteers as to how they would like to spend their time with the seniors. Volunteers can assist with anything from simply visiting with the seniors in their rooms perhaps reading The Bible to a group of volunteers arranging a Bingo tournament or choral presentation. Volunteers will need to coordinate any efforts ahead of the Day of Caring in order for best preparation and to ensure that all planned activities are approved.

Attire: Volunteers will need to dress in Day of Caring t-shirt.

BOWLING GREEN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY: PAINTING

Volunteers from WKU Athletics will be volunteering; no volunteer slots available

Details: 4-6 Volunteers are needed to prep and paint the walls in an interior, two story stairwell in a preschool buildingon the Education Day of Caring (July 27th)

Minimum Age: 12

Supplies: Paint, rollers, extension handles, brushes, and drop cloths will be provided by BGCA.

Attire: Volunteers should dress comfortably and in old clothes that they don’t mind possibly getting paint on.

Lunch will be provided.

BOWLING GREEN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY: SPACE CONVERSION

Details: 4-6 Volunteers are needed to assist in the conversion of a bathroom into an office. One sink, one urinal, and two toilets will need to be removed and the plumbing capped off. A partition will need to be removed. The walls will need to be prepped and painted. Knowledge of plumbing skills are requested for volunteers.THIS PROJECT WILL TAKE PLACE ON A DIFFERENT DATE – VOLUNTEERS CHOOSE DATE

Minimum Age: 12

Supplies: BGCA will provide paint and painting supplies. Plumbing items will be purchased by BGCA as necessary.

Attire: Volunteers should dress comfortably.Lunch will be provided.

BOWLING GREEN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY: PLAYGROUND IMPROVEMENTS

Volunteers from WKU Athletics will be volunteering; no volunteer slots available

Details: 12-15 Volunteers are needed to replenish mulch on the two playgrounds

Minimum Age: 12

Supplies: BGCA will provide a truck load of mulch, wheel barrows, shovels, rakes, buckets, and ladders.

Attire: Volunteers should dress comfortably.

Lunch will be provided.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB: COMMUNITY GARDEN

Details: 10-20 Volunteers are needed from 10am - 4pm on the Education Day of Caring (July 27th) to build farmers market sales stand, install gauge wire fencing, and mulch

Minimum Age: 18

Supplies: All supplies needed to build farmers market stand and install fencing will be provided. Mulch is requested to be supplied by volunteers.

Attire: Volunteers should dress comfortably and in old clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty

Lunch will be provided.

BRIARWOOD ELEMENTARY: BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS

Volunteers from WKU Athletics will be volunteering; no volunteer slots available

Details: 10 Volunteers are needed from 10am - 4pm on the Education Day of Caring (July 27th) to paint halls and deep clean the school

Minimum Age: 12 – Parents required w/youth.

Supplies: All project materials will be provided by Briarwood

BRIARWOOD ELEMENTARY: SUPPLY DRIVE FOR ENGLISH LEARNER CLASSROOMS

Volunteers from Western Kentucky University are helping to complete this project; more volunteers are welcome to join

Details: Businesses, companies, groups, churches, etc. are needed to run internal drives to collect supplies for Briarwood Elementary FRC Program as part of the Education Day of Caring. Supplies needed are Clorox wipes, tissues, playdoh, candy, paper towels, markers, crayons, glue sticks, copy paper, wide lined notebook paper, highlighters, paper plates, small paper bags, construction paper, small plastic cups. Participating groups need to deliver collected supplies to Briarwood Elementary after July 27th at the volunteer’s availability.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION: READING BUDDIES AND BOOK DRIVE

Volunteers from Western Kentucky University Student Activities Officeand Christian Family Radio are helping to complete this project; no volunteers slots available

Details: Businesses, organizations, groups, churches, etc. are needed to hold a book drives to collect newly purchased books or donations to help purchase books to be delivered to Community Education before the Education Day of Caring (July 27th) 5-10 Volunteers are also needed to spend time reading to the children in Community Education’s summer programs on Education Day of Caring(July 27th)12-1pm.

FAMILY ENRICHMENT CENTER WEE CARE CHILDCARE: GARAGE & PLAYGROUND CLEANUP

Volunteers from the ELPO will be completing this project.

Details: 10-15 Volunteers are needed from 10am - 4pm on Education Day of Caring (July 27th) to clean up the garage and playground

Minimum Age: 13

Supplies: FEC requests volunteers provide brush trimmers, weed eaters, blowers, rakes, perhaps small tools i.e. screwdrivers, wrenches

Attire: Volunteers should dress comfortably and in old clothes that they don’t mind possibly getting DIRTY

Lunch will be provided.

THE FOUNDRY: PERSONAL LIBRARIES FOR THE FOUNDRY STUDENTS

Volunteers from Trace Die Cast are helping to complete this project.

Details: Volunteers are needed to build personal libraries for students at the Foundry. Trace Die Cast will be holding a book drive during the month of July for employees to have the opportunity to donate newly purchased books or to make donations to help purchase the books.Supplies: Trace Die Cast will be supplying books to the students at the Foundry.

GREENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER: “IT TAKES A VILLAGE”SUPPLY DRIVE

Volunteers from American Bank & Trust will be volunteering; more volunteers are welcome to join!

Details: Businesses, companies, groups, churches, etc. are needed to conduct internal drives to collect supplies for Greenwood High School’s FRC Program as part of the Education Day of Caring. Supplies needed are backpacks, 3-in-1 body wash, shampoo/conditioner, packages of socks, toilet paper, paper towels, composition books, non- perishable food items, deodorant, and other personal care items. Items collected will need to be delivered to Greenwood High School before August 5th- at the volunteer’s availability.

INTERNATIONAL CENTER OF KENTUCKY: PAINTING A CLASSROOM

Details: 5-10 Volunteers are needed from 10am - 4pm on Education Day of Caring (July 27th) to paint one of our classrooms to assist in creating an environment conducive to learning.
