IntroductionCHAPTER 1
Thank you for choosing NEATO® as your Label Enabler™. We hope that you enjoy our product and that the information provided in this manual will make your labeling and packaging creations as easy as possible.
MediaFACE™ is a program designed to place images and text on pre-designed templates. You can then print the labels you’ve designed on NEATO® approved paper stock.
MediaFACE™ provides templates for the following:

InstallationCHAPTER 2
This chapter will guide you through the installation process and troubleshoot any difficulties that may occur.
Autorun
The following steps will explain how to install the MediaFACE™ software by using the Autorun feature.
NOTE: Not all systems will have the Autorun feature. If you do not see the MediaFACE Welcome Screen after inserting the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM Drive, please skip this section and go directly to Using Add / Remove programs.
- Before installing MediaFACE™ on your system, please close all other applications that you may have running. Next, insert the MediaFACE™ CD into your CD-ROM Drive. Once the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM Drive, the MediaFACE Welcome Screen should appear.
- At the Welcome Screen, click on Next and you'll go to the License Agreement screen. Upon agreement, you’ll go to the Late Breaking Information screen. Click on Next and you can view the ReadMe file, which will contain any information not contained within the manual (you can also print this out later for future reference). Once you have read the contents of the ReadMe file on your screen, click on Next and you'll be at the Select Destination Directory.
- In the Select Destination Directory, it is recommended that you install MediaFACE™ in the default directory (C:\Program Files\MediaFACE), click Next and you'll be ready to install the program. Finally, click on Next and the installation will begin. Once the installation is complete, click on Finish.
- NOTE: You may or may not have to restart your computer after installation, the program will prompt you if needed.
Using Add / Remove programs
Follow the steps below to install MediaFACE™ by using Add / Remove Programs.
- Before installing MediaFACE™ on your system, please close all other applications that you may have running. Next, insert the MediaFACE™ CD into your CD-ROM Drive. Once the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM Drive, click on Start, then select Settings and click on Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, double-click on Add/Remove programs. Once this window is opened, click on Install, then Next. Now Windows will search for the MediaFACE™ setup file. If this was done correctly, you should see the following: D:\Setup.exe. NOTE: Your CD ROM Drive letter may be something other than D:, however, for reasons of continuity D: shall indicate the CD ROM Drive throughout this manual.
- Next, click on the Finish and the MediaFACE Welcome Screen will appear. Once you're at the Welcome Screen, click on Next and you'll go to the License Agreement screen. Upon agreement, you’ll go to the Late Breaking Information screen. Click on Next and you can view the ReadMe file, which will contain any information not contained within the manual (you can also print this out later for future reference). Once you have read the contents of the ReadMe file on your screen, click on Next and you'll be at the Select Destination Directory.
- In the Select Destination Directory, it is recommended that you install the MediaFACE™ in the default directory (C:\Program Files\MediaFACE), click Next and you'll be ready to install the program. Finally, click on Next and the installation will begin. Once the installation is complete, click on Finish.
NOTE: You may or may not have to restart your computer after installation, the program will prompt you if needed.
View / Printing ReadMe File
Once the program is installed, it is recommended that you print out the ReadMe file. To do so, please follow the steps listed below:
- Make sure you have the MediaFACE™ CD-ROM in your computer's CD-ROM drive.
- Double-click on "My Computer", then double-click on the icon that reads D:\MediaFACE.
- Double-click on the file ReadMe. This should open up in Notepad.
- Next, click on File, then Print.
Installation Troubleshooting
I’ve placed the CD in the CD-ROM Drive, but the Autorun does not work.
- Refer to the section titled Using Add / Remove programs.
I cannot find the Setup file on the CD-ROM.
- Make sure the CD-ROM is in the Drive.
- Verify the CD-ROM Drive is in working order (Insert another CD into the Drive).
- Make sure the MediaFACE™ CD is clean.
The Installation ended abruptly.
- Close all applications and startup items found in your taskbar.
- Verify the CD-ROM Drive is in working order (Insert another disc into the Drive).
- Make sure the MediaFACE™ CD is clean.
How do I uninstall MediaFACE™?
If it becomes necessary to uninstall MediaFACE™, please do the following:
- Click on Start, go to Settings and click on Control Panel.
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
- Select MediaFACE and click on Add/Remove.
- In the Select Uninstall Method window, select Automatic and then click on Next.
- At the Perform Uninstall window, click on Finish and the uninstallation process will begin.
- Click on OK once the uninstallation is complete.
Starting the ApplicationCHAPTER 3
To open MediaFACE™
Click on Start, then Programs. Next select MediaFACE Applications and click on MediaFACE.
Startup troubleshooting
I cannot find MediaFACE™ in the Start Menu.
- You can also start the application by doing the following:
- Click on Start, then click on Run.
- Click on browse, where it reads "Look In", click on the arrow pointing down and scroll till you see
My Computer.
- Double-click on the “My Computer” icon.
- Double-click on C:, then double-click on Program Files, then double-click on MediaFACE.
- Next locate and double-click on the file named CDFACE32.
Note: The file CDFACE32 is the executable for MediaFACE™.
- Uninstall, then reinstall the program.
The program will not open.
- Check the task bar. There are some cases in which the program will be minimized upon opening.
- Close all other applications, run ScanDisk (Start menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools), then re-install the program.
What template should I use?
- Please refer to the ReadMefile or the MediaFACE™Instructions (page 30) for a complete list of templates and template descriptions.
How do I remove/move the Palette Bar?
- Move – Left click on the top of the Palette Bar (blue edge), then drag to desired location.
- Remove – Select View, then click on Palette Bar.
Familiarize yourself with the Work Area CHAPTER 4
Now that MediaFACE™ is open, you should see the following:
- The MediaFACE™ logo in the center of the screen.
- The Menu Bar - This is at the top of the screen (File, View, Help).
- The Toolbar - This is located directly underneath the Menu Bar.
- Palette Bar - This is located on the left side of the screen.
- Status Bar - This is located at the bottom of the screen.
Please use the Reference chart included at the end of this manual as a visual reference while following this chapter.
NOTE: Some items will not be accessible until you have selected a template. For tutorial purposes, please click on File then New. A Select Template dialogue box will appear. Select any template and click on OK.
Throughout this manual, there is a reference to Select or Click, Double-Click and Right-Click.
- Select or Click - When Select or Click is mentioned, this is referring to positioning the cursor over a specific area and then left clicking.
- Double-Click - When Double-Click is mentioned, this is referring to positioning the cursor over a specific area and then left clicking TWICE.
- Right-Click - When Right-Click is mentioned, this is referring to positioning the cursor over a specific area and then right clicking.
Menu Bar
You will see the following items on the Menu Bar.
File
You will see the following when you click on File.
- New - Allows you to select and open a new template.
- Open - Allows you to open a previously created and saved MediaFACE™ document.
- Close - Allows you to close the MediaFACE™ document you're currently working in.
- Save - Allows you to save the work you're currently doing in a default location.
- Save As - Allows you to save the work with a specific name and location.
- Print - This allows you to print the document currently open.
- Printer Setup - Allows you to alter your printer(s) settings as needed within the program.
- Print Calibration - Allows you to calibrate your printer to NEATO® approved paper stock.
- Recent Files - Allows you to open previously saved files. This will show the last 4 files you have worked on.
- Exit – Allows you to exit MediaFACE™ and return to your Desktop.
Edit
You will see the following when you click on Edit.
- Undo - Allows you to cancel the last command made.
- Redo - Allows you to do over again your undo.
- Cut - Removes selected information (images/text) from the document and copies it to the clipboard.
- Copy - Copies selected information (images/text) from the document (without removing it) and sends it to the clipboard.
- Select all Fields- Allows you to select all the fields on the label.
- Paste - Places information copied to the clipboard on another area you’ve selected on the document.
NOTE: You can only copy and paste images within the program.
- Delete - Removes the information you’ve selected from the document.
Field
You will see the following when you click on Field.
- Add Text to … Add text to an area you’ve selected on the document.
- Add Picture to … Add picture to an area you’ve selected on the document.
- New Shape Field - Add a shape (Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle, Circle) to an area you’ve selected on the document.
- Align to Label (Left, Center, Right) - Align text / shapes either to the left, center or right of the label you’ve selected.
- Align to Field (Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom) – Aligns selected fields either to the Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom.
- Align to Axis (Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom) - Aligns selected fields either to the Left, Center Horizontal, Right, Top, Center Vertical, Bottom of the Axis.
- Align Text (Left, Center, Right) - Align text field either to the left, center or right of the field.
- Movement (Move Forward, Move Back, Bring to Front, Send to Back) - Move images/text to the foreground/background in relation to one another.
- Rotation - Rotate (text only) the field you’ve selected either clockwise or counter clockwise in 10 º increments.
- Snap to Fit – Resizes text box to its original created size.
- Label/Field Selection - Select another area on the document or select an individual field on a document.
- Properties - View and alter the properties of the area you’ve selected on the document.
Page
You will see the following when you click on Page.
Page Properties - You can do the following in Page Properties.
- General - Select units (inches, millimeters, points) and change the background color of the label.
NOTE: If you change the background color of the label, it will not print that selected color.
- Layout - Select the page size you wish to work in. It is NOT recommended that you alter the existing page layout.
NOTE: NEATO® approved paper stock will come in 3 sizes. (US Letter / A4 / Video Sleeve).
- US Letter (8.5”x11”) is the standard throughout North/Central/South America.
- A4 (210mm x 297mm) is the standard throughout Europe/Africa/Asia.
- Video Sleeve is a custom 8.5"x12" paper size.
Grid Settings - You can do the following in Page Properties.
- Spacing – Allows you to set the grid spacing in mm, inches or custom.
- Display Grid – Allows you to toggle the grid display on and off.
View
You will see the following when you click on View.
- Zoom in/out - Increases/decreases your viewing area in 20% increments.
- Fit Height/Width - Allows you to view the templates width or height.
- Toolbar/Status Bar/Palette Bar/Alignment Axis/Grid - Allows you to turn on/off the specific item selected.
- Move Axis – Allows you to move the location of the Axis by using the keyboard.
Window
You will see the following when you click on Window.
- Cascade - Allows you to cascade files (if you have more than one file open).
- Tile - Allows you to tile files (if you have more than one file open).
- Arrange Icons - Arranges minimized files (if you have more than one file opened and minimized).
- Title 1,2,3,4 - Opens selected title (if you have more than one title open).
Help
You will see the following if you click on Help.
- Help Topics - Online help for MediaFACE™.
- About MediaFACE - Information about NEATO® and MediaFACE™ (NEATO® contact numbers, version and build of MediaFACE™).
Tool Bar
The following Icons will be on the Toolbar. (Please refer to the reference chart at the end of the manual.)
NOTE: Explanations of each of these are in the previous Menu Bar section of this manual.
New, Open, Save, Print, Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Move Forward, Move Back, Rotate Counter Clockwise, Rotate Clockwise, Align Text Left, Align Text Center, Align Text Right, Toggle Grid, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Program Information, Context Help.
Palette Bar
The Palette bar provides you with short cuts to the most used functions of MediaFACE™. Below is a listing of the functions.
- Add Text - This button will resemble the letter T.
- Add an Image - This button will resemble a cactus with a sun rising behind it.
- Add a Line - This button will resemble a line at a 45° angle.
- Add an Open Rectangle - This will resemble a rectangle with a light gray center.
- Add an Open Rounded Rectangle - This will resemble a rounded rectangle with a light gray center.
- Add an Open Circle - This will resemble a circle with a light gray center.
- Add a Filled Rectangle - This will resemble a rectangle with a dark gray center.
- Add a Filled Rounded Rectangle - This will resemble a rounded rectangle with a dark gray center.
- Add a Filled Circle - This will resemble a circle with a dark gray center.
- Color Palette - This is the area with the 36 colored squares. These are the predefined border/fill colors available in MediaFACE™.
- Custom Color Palette - This is the area with the 6 empty squares. These can be defined by the user.
- Border/Fill color - This will resemble two squares atop one another. The top square represents the selected border color. The bottom square represents the selected fill color.
- Switch Colors - This will resemble a double ended arrow. This feature allows you to switch the border and the fill color.
- Pen Size - This will allow you to change the pen line sizes.
