ALL FINE ARTS ELECTIVE CLASSES ARE FOR ONE SEMESTER ONLY:

Art Elective Mrs. Carolyn Wass

In this class we will be exploring drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery and sculpture. Emphasis will be placed on tackling the basics of these mediums.

Study Skills Mrs. Aleta Sheetz
Middle School and High School Level
"I forgot my book!"
"I did my homework, but left it at home!"
"I can't remember what the assignment is!"
This class will help with these issues and more. Your student will learn organizational and study skills for both at home and school academic settings. Note-taking and test-taking strategies will also be mastered. This class is especially helpful for students with ADD/ADHD and students that live in two homes. Your student's self-esteem will increase as they learn time management and their grades improve.

Public Speaking 101Miss Victoria Boyce

In this class, students will learn the valuable and necessary skills to make them excellent public speakers. In class, in college, and in some jobs people are required to make speeches; this class will teach the student the best way to arrange their words to make the most impact on their audience, how to conquer “stage fright”, and the correct way to deliver a speech so that you are heard and respected.

Vocal EnsembleMrs. Kim Jones

We will apply theory, sight-singing, vocal techniques, and prepare to perform these beautiful pieces at the end of the elective. Students should have some basic experience in reading and expressing music. Auditions required.

Beginning PianoMrs. Kim Jones

A standard keyboard or piano at home is required for this class.

ClayMrs. Carolyn Wass

Students will be molding their own clay projects with instruction from the teacher. There is a kiln fee charge per student that will be posted later for the use of the teacher’s kiln. It is recommended the students wear an art shirt or some type of old t-shirt or art apron when working with the clay.

Ballroom Dance I & II Miss Victoria Boyce

Ever wanted to learn how to waltz around the room? What about dance a dazzling cha-cha? Then this class is for you. Sectional award winning dancer Miss Victoria Boyce will be teaching a class that not only covers a new ballroom dance a month, but also goes over technique such as frame, foot position, and more. This class is perfect for both beginner and intermediate dancers. Suggested as a year long class.

Beginning Acting Miss Victoria Boyce

American Sign LanguageMrs. Aleta Sheetz

Using videos and classroom instruction as well as note taking, we will be learning signs for the alphabet, phrases, and sentences. Classroom participation and practice during the week is required.

Directing 101Miss Victoria Boyce

This class is designed to teach inspiring directors how to direct a movie, play, and musical. By the end of this class, students will know the best way to direct, the differences between movies and plays, and finally how to spot good directing and bad directing and tell them apart. At the end of this class, the student will have directed a movie scene and a play scene.

Improvisation IMr. Tanner McCracken

Students will learn the basics of performance improvisation, including agreement, characterization, scene work, and game structure.

Improvisation II Mr. Tanner McCracken

Students will build on the techniques learned in Improv 1 to explore long-form, free-form, and musical improv, as well as how to emcee an improv performance. Improv 1 required.

Theory of Game DesignMr. Tanner McCracken

Why do you set up the rules for games whether they be card games, board games, or video games? Learn critical thinking skills in the Theory of Game Design.

Photography - Mr. Philip Griffith

Class meets Wednesdays from 12:50 - 2:20

Class Cost: $215 includes $20 building fee

DSLR Camera Required. Maximum of _6_ students.

Photography 101:

This class will begin with a brief historic overview of photography and the examination of a number of significant photographers and the images they created. Then, we move on to a series of assignments designed to build up the basic skills of using the camera and it’s controls correctly. At the same time, we will begin the introduction to digital editing and manipulation using Photoshop Elements 14. My class concept can and will change as we go along.

Class requirements:

  1. A DSLR or mirrorless camera capable of producing RAW image files.
  2. Interchangeable lenses not required, a built in zoom lens is fine.
  3. A desktop/laptop computer to work on.
  4. Photoshop Elements 14 (available form adobe.com - $69.99)

*note* - If all the students have a smart phone capable of making photos, we might choose an app we can all use and do a section on smart phone photography.

Photography 102:

In this continuation of our first class, we will expand and push the student’s abilities and creativity in both using the camera and post production manipulation using Photoshop Elements 14. But, we will also work to develop a sense of artistic vision, which means finding a way to help the student understand not only what they are photographing, but why and why it is important to them.

Some class assignments will include:

  1. Keep and maintain an artist’s journal.
  2. Study selected photographers, their images and why they are historically and artistically significant.
  3. Work on a multi-print series that relate to each other through image content, technique or theme.
  4. Assemble a final portfolio (physical or electronic), featuring the best work produced by the student during the school year.
