JOB PURPOSE
·  To provide recovery-oriented pharmacological treatment and related interventions to service users in HMP Humber / HMP Hull
·  To initiate and stabilise pharmacological treatment, working closely with the wider Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service (DARS) to ensure coordinated delivery of ongoing care, including detoxification and relapse prevention regimes, as agreed within Recovery Plans
·  To ensure high quality clinical interventions are available to service users, that are appropriate to their needs and recovery goals, including pathology
·  Other roles required, include organising pathology testing when this is part of drug monitoring, ECG testing, BBV testing, interpreting and acting on results and any other areas as requested by Lifeline management.
·  To provide clinical advice within the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service, to practitioners delivering substance misuse treatment
·  To provide fast access to treatment for priority groups
·  To work with colleagues, including Prison Healthcare GPs, to ensure that patients’ wider health and medical needs are addressed collaboratively and without duplication
·  To work within relevant national guidance, as related specifically to substance misuse and work in secure environments
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service delivery:
·  Assess all new service users who are referred with substance problems, including suspected opioid dependence, alcohol dependence and benzodiazepine/’z’ drug dependence. This will include assessment for Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST) Prescribing and/or Prescribing to support change and abstinence for alcohol users, working closely with Recovery Coordinators and other colleagues, including Primary Care Doctors in Prison and community
·  Lead and supervise recovery-oriented pharmacological treatment within agreed recovery plans (safe and effective initiation; titration; maintenance; detoxification and relapse prevention)
·  Work within national and locally agreed clinical guidelines for safe and effective prescribing, including specific guidelines for the delivery of treatment in secure environments
·  Facilitate the safe management of treatment within the DARS as soon as treatment is stabilised and care can be safely managed.
·  Contribute to the maintenance of client clinical databases; ensure clinical entries provide clear and concise clinical information and adhere to information requirements for governance, reporting and monitoring purposes
·  Work in conjunction with Recovery Coordinators, other prescribers and the clinical nursing team in developing and delivering prescribing treatment modalities for service users, in line with agreed operating procedures and individual recovery plans
·  Prescribe cost effectively within the parameters set by Lifeline’s Medically Assisted Recovery Framework and locally applicable policies and formularies
Performance and people management:
·  Provide clinical advice and support to Recovery Coordinators and other staff working in prison estates
·  Ensure all serious untoward incidents (including Drug Related Deaths) are reported, contribute to investigation, reporting and lessons learnt processes and implement any service changes arising.
·  Maintain appropriate professional registration
·  Participate in clinical governance, clinical audit and service development processes as required
·  Participate in own personal performance review
·  Ensure data security is maintained at all times

All criteria are Essential unless otherwise indicated

Experience (through paid or voluntary work)

·  Experience in Providing pharmacological treatment to individuals affected by substance misuse, both drug and alcohol

·  Experience of applying detailed knowledge of detoxification from drugs and alcohol

·  Experience of working in a secure environment (desirable)

Knowledge

·  Knowledge of the main clinical treatments for substance misuse

·  Knowledge of the strategic and political context within which Lifeline delivers substance misuse services, in particular an understanding of public health and the recovery agenda

·  Knowledge of clinical governance principles and key processes, including clinical audit, staff development and support, patient feedback, incident management and investigation

·  An understanding/awareness of current national policies on substance misuse and the strategies that influence the priorities of treatment services

·  Knowledge of the developing recovery agenda in the substance misuse field

Qualifications and Training

·  Registered nurse RMN or RGN, or registered pharmacist

·  Registration as an NMP on the appropriate clinical register

·  Specific training/certification in substance misuse (RCGP drug level 1 and level 2 or equivalent, RCGP alcohol level 1 or equivalent).

·  Relevant training/education in BBV’s/Viral Hepatitis (desirable)

·  An ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and patients
