All Categories take place at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Friday March 23, 2018.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
• To participate in the competition, you must be a registered student at a Maricopa Community College during the Fall ’17 or Spring ’18 semesters (MCCCD faculty members, both adjunct and residential, in any discipline are not eligible to participate).
• Solo competition entrants must be enrolled in private music instruction specific to that category at their college.
• Solo competition entrants must be enrolled in an ensemble class at their college.
• Solo competition entrants must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours of Music courses at their college.
• Ensemble (including Jazz Ensemble) competition entrants must be enrolled in any Music ensemble course.
• Prior First Place competition winners in the Solo categories are not eligible to participate in the same Solo category again.
• Prior First Place Ensemble competition winners are not eligible to participate in the same Ensemble category again with the exact same ensemble personnel.

For solo and ensemble competitions, you will be notified one week prior to the competition with your assigned performance date and time.

Although the student registration for the competition is online, the adjudication will be in person.

PLEASE NOTE: First Place Music Winners in each category will perform at the Artists of Promise Gala event on April 24, 2018 (rehearsal) and April 25, 2018 (performance) at the Herberger Theatre in downtown Phoenix. All First Place Music winners are required to attend both the dress rehearsal and the performance. All awards will be presented at this event.

MUSIC—INSTRUMENTAL:
There are five categories:
• Instrumental Solo (non-Guitar or Piano)
• Piano Solo
• Guitar Solo
• Instrumental Ensemble
• Jazz Ensemble

The Instrumental Competition will be held on March 23, 2018 at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
• Appropriate dress for competition is required.
• Check-in rooms and individual competition times will be announced.
• Check-in at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled performance time.
• Arrive early to ensure use of practice room.

Instrumental Solo (non-Guitar or Piano):
• Maximum of 8 minutes; sonata or concerto will be allowed with proper musical editorial cuts.
• Bring an unmarked original edition of your music.

Guitar Solo:
• Performance from memory only.
• Bring an unmarked original edition of your music.
• Work performed must be published repertoire, no original compositions or arrangements.
• Maximum of 10 minutes; one or two selections allowed; no concertos.

Piano Solo:
• Performance from memory only
• Bring an unmarked original edition of your music.
• Maximum of 12 minutes
• One or two solo selections allowed; no concertos.

Instrumental Ensemble:
• Bring an unmarked original edition of your music.
• An ensemble of 2-9 students may be formed for the sole purpose of this competition.
• Maximum of 10 minutes.
• All participants in the performance will be judged as members of the ensemble, and must therefore be students. There are no accompanists in this category.

Jazz Ensemble:
• Bring an unmarked original edition of your music.
• An ensemble of 2-9 nine students may be formed for the sole purpose of this competition.
• Maximum of 10 minutes.
• All participants in the performance will be judged as members of the ensemble, and must therefore be students. There are no accompanists in this category.
