All-Academic Band
Dear Director,
Enclosed is the information that you will need to nominate your top senior band students to the South Texas All-Academic Band sponsored by UIL Music Region XIV. You will find the list of criteria to be used to nominate your student(s).
A nomination by their director constitutes membership into the South Texas All-Academic Band. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the director to carefully check this criteria before nominating their student. All nominated students should be e-mailed to Liz Ortega-Ruiz by May 16, 2013. A press release will be sent to local newspapers in Corpus Christi, Victoria, and Laredo. A copy will be sent to Region XIV directors for release to their communities.
The certificate attached will be completed and printed by you, and can be used to recognize your student(s) for this award.

SOUTH TEXAS ALL-ACADEMIC BAND
CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION
1.A South Texas All-Academic High School Band will be selected to honor the top senior band members of Region XIV.
2.A nomination form posted on the Region XIV web page. Fill out the spreadsheet and send it to Liz Ortega-Ruiz at
3.Criteria for selection to the South Texas All-Academic Band:
a.Students who are nominated must be seniors who have maintained 90 or above grade averages in their high school careers through their senior years.
b.The students must be performing instrumental members of a H.S. Band.
c.All students who are nominated by their band directors will be in the South Texas All-Academic Band. Included in the criteria will be grade average, class standing, and instrument played.
d.The student in each section who has maintained an average of at least 97 and has the highest average within the section will receive section leader recognition. In the case of ties, the honors won will be the determining factor in the final selection.
4.The Region Band chairperson will appoint a committee to review the nominations, and select section leaders.
5.The director acknowledges through the nomination that a student has met the academic requirements necessary for inclusion in the Academic Band.
6.It is the director's responsibility to give each Academic Band student in their band a certificate. Nominations submitted before the deadline will be recognized through the news media in the cities involved.
