All About the New Campaign

We've been getting a lot of questions about Dawn of Defiance, the new campaign for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game. So we put together an FAQ to tell you more about this upcoming series of adventures.

What is the Dawn of Defiance campaign?

The Dawn of Defiance campaign is a series of 10 downloadable adventures using the Saga Edition rules. The adventures can be played individually, but when played in order, they form a complete campaign with a story arc that takes players from 1st level to 20th level. Each adventure will be the equivalent of a 32-page printed product and will advance the heroes two levels.

More importantly, the Dawn of Defiance campaign is a chance to experience the Star Wars Roleplaying Game in a new and exciting way. The campaign lets players grow as heroes from the lowliest beginnings to galaxy-influencing greatness. It also gives us the opportunity to show people what a Saga Edition campaign might look like and help Gamemasters provide an exciting game experience across many levels. The Dawn of Defiance campaign is our chance to provide an iconic Star Wars Roleplaying Game experience that can be shared across the community.

How do I get the Dawn of Defiance adventures?

What is the cost of downloading the Dawn of Defiance campaign?

Each adventure in the Dawn of Defiance campaign will be free to download. By the end of the campaign, Gamemasters should have the equivalent of a 320+ page campaign book at their disposal -- for free!

When does the first adventure become available? How often do they come out?

The first adventure, The Traitor's Gambit, should be available in late 2007 (October or November). A new adventure will be posted each month thereafter for the next nine months, until the campaign is complete.

Do I have to be a member of the RPGA to play or run Dawn of Defiance adventures?

No, you will be able to download and use the Dawn of Defiance adventures regardless of RPGA membership. However, there will be benefits for RPGA members.

What do I get if I run an RPGA-sanctioned Dawn of Defiance game?

RPGA members who report the results of their Dawn of Defiance adventures qualify for reward points, which can help them earn things like reward cards (the first Star Wars reward card, "The Battle of Glee Anselm," was released at GenCon 2007 in Indianapolis). Additionally, the RPGA will be monitoring participation in the Dawn of Defiance campaign to determine the viability of future RPGA Star Wars campaigns.

What time period is the campaign set in?

The Dawn of Defiance campaign is set during the period between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Exact dates for the campaign are left vague so that Gamemasters can set the adventures in any portion of that era they choose. However, the campaign makes some basic assumptions, including that the first adventure begins just a few months after the end of the Clone Wars.

What kinds of characters work best in the Dawn of Defiance campaign?

Since the Dawn of Defiance campaign is designed to provide the iconic Star Wars experience, it focuses on fighting the tyranny of the evil Galactic Empire. Characters with Imperial sympathies may find it difficult to participate, but GMs should be able to tailor the adventures to work with almost any type of group. Otherwise, any heroic character that has not succumbed to the dark side will flourish in the Dawn of Defiance campaign.

Will there be any other kinds of support for Dawn of Defiance?

In addition to the free adventures, each month we'll post at least a few additional articles that expand on related topics. These articles will be more for general use and may provide new material usable by both players and GMs over the course of the campaign.

What else does the Dawn of Defiance campaign have to offer?

Even GMs who don't wish to run the Dawn of Defiance campaign will find much of value in each adventure. They should feel free to borrow or adapt encounters, unique NPC statistics, and other material from the campaign for use in their own games. Each adventure will provide a wealth of new material usable across many types of Saga Edition games.
