ALIA Groups Induction

To help get your Group up and running or if the Group simply needs a little reinvigorating, below are some resources to assist you in managing your Group.

Groups Handbook

The Groups Handbook is your go-to guide for managing your Group. If you can’t find your answer in there, please do not hesitate to contact

Website

Each Group is provided with their own webpage on the ALIA website (eg. https://www.alia.org.au/groups/groupname). The groups are at liberty to design and configure their webpage however they like, with as much or little content as desired. Each group will also be provided a logo. If you would like any changes made to your webpage, please email

Community Page

The community page is used as a discussion forum for the Group, where members can post questions or upcoming events that others can reply to. This is set up within the membership portal of the website and is linked from your main webpage. NB: you need to be an ALIA member with a log in to utilise the community page.

Elists

Elists are a great communication tool to use within a Group. Each Group has the option to set one up. At least one member of the group needs to volunteer as the elist moderator. Please email if you would like to set up an elist. NB: Elist requests are subject to approval by CEO.

Wiki

Groups wishing to store current documents such as meeting minutes, agendas, reports and the like are encouraged to use an ALIA wikispaces page. Please see the Wiki Spaces 101 document for assistance.

Personal group email contact

If Groups are intending to hold multiple events throughout the year you are welcome to set up a personal email account so members can easily contact the Group directly. This cuts out the need for the Groups Coordinator to forward on enquiries that are received at ALIA House. Example:

Social Media

Groups can operate numerous social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, blogs, instagram and Pinterest. These are normally created and maintained by the Group itself. Please just notify the Groups coordinator of any new social media accounts so that these can be recorded and monitored. Please also refer to Groups Social Media Guidelines.

Awards

Many Groups administer awards throughout the year. If your Group is interested in facilitating an award, please email to organise.

Events

Hosting an event can seem like a daunting task; however ALIA is here to support you through the entire process. All steps and requirements are outlined in the Groups Handbook and the Registration Manual.

Treasurers Kit

Budgeted groups are provided with a Treasurers Kit, which includes relevant documents and forms to recoup money and expenses.

Certificate of Participation

A certificate of participation can be provided to Groups that wish to present these to members who attend PD events run by the Group. Please email for the template.

Graphic design

Groups are welcome to create your own flyers/posters for Events but please make sure they include the ALIA logo or your personal group logo. These can be obtained by emailing the .

However, if you would like the ALIA House graphic designer to create something for your event, please email us at with your design brief and allow at least 2 weeks for completion.
