Subject:Alhambra Unified School District Algebra Benchmark 2009

All 8th grade students who have completed a year’s study of Algebra at their home schools are eligible to take the Alhambra Unified School District Algebra Benchmark, which covers Algebra l/2. If the student meets the following criteria, he/she will be able to take Geometry in the freshman year.

9TH GRADE PLACEMENT FOR CURRENT ALGEBRA STUDENTS

Final Placement of Algebra students into Geometry will be based on the following criteria. Students must meet all of the following:

•C or better on the Third Trimester Benchmark Assessment

•C or better on the Third Trimester Report Card

NOTE:Students who do not meet the above criteria for Geometry will be placed into Algebra I for 9th grade.

Final Placement of Algebra students into Geometry Honors will be based on the following criteria. Students must meet all of the following:

•A on the Third Trimester Benchmark Assessment

•A on the Third Trimester Report Card

Final Placement of Geometry students into Algebra II will be based on the following criteria. Students must meet all of the following:

•B or better on the Third Trimester Benchmark Assessment

•B or better on the Third Trimester Report Card

NOTE:Students who do not meet the above criteria for Algebra II will be placed into Algebra I for 9th grade. Students will then take Algebra II in Fall 2010.

Final Placement of Geometry students into Algebra II Honors will be based on the following criteria. Students must meet all of the following:

•A on the Third Trimester Benchmark Assessment

•A on the Third Trimester Report Card

TIME:9:00 – 11:30 a.m.

LOCATION:Mark Keppel High School Cafeteria

501 E. Hellman Ave., Alhambra

NOTE:- Students must bring a Photo ID or they will not be permitted to take the test.

-They also need to bring 2 or 3 #2 pencils with an eraser.

-Calculators will be permitted (no graphing calculators).

Please e-mail or fax your summary sheet to or 626.943.3087 no later than Friday, May 22, 2009. Complete a separate sheet for your current algebra students and your current geometry students. You can e-mail Janet Lees to receive the electronic file of the summary sheet.
