Algebra II Southaven High School

Fall Semester 2016 Stephanie Hill

Algebra II Class Syllabus

Materials: You are expected to bring the following items to class each day:

  1. Pencil
  2. Composition notebook
  3. Brain

Supplies: These are other supplies needed for class:

  1. $5 Math fee (required by the Mathematics department)
  2. 1st Block – Kleenex

2nd Block – Paper Towels

3rd Block – Glue sticks (Elmer’s – at least 3 count)

3. Graph paper (homework must be done on graph paper for full credit)

Grades:

ASMT: Assessments (40%)

CW: Classwork (25%)

EX: Nine Weeks and Final Exams (15%)

HW: Homework (20%)

Assessments: Please expect to be tested at the end of each chapter. If you are absent for a test, you must make-up that test before the next chapter test. Make up tests will be administered in my classroom before or after school. You will need a pass to get to my room before or after school, so I will need to know when you are coming ahead of time. Additionally, please note that make up tests must be completed in one sitting, so plan accordingly.

Classwork/Homework: Success in mathematics depends greatly on practice. For this reason, classwork and homework will be assigned daily. You are responsible for completing assignments and returning them to class to be checked and/or reviewed. Classwork assignments will be graded for correctness and homework assignments (must be on graph paper) will be graded for completion. I will not accept late assignments without prior approval. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain the notes that were taken in class and to check the “While You Were Out” binder. You will have 5 days to complete the assignment(s) that you missed.

Tardies: If a student is not in the classroom when the tardy bell rings, he/she will be considered tardy. If you are tardy, you will not be admitted to class without a tardy pass from the office.

Classroom Policies:

·  Cell phones may only be used for educational purposes in my classroom. I will have a laminated sheet of paper in the left hand corner of my board that will let you know if you will cell phone use is allowed. Green means that it is allowed; red means that it needs to be put away.

·  Drinks and food are allowed as long as you clean up after yourself. Failure to do so will result in loss of eating and drinking privileges.

·  Supplies for your use are located on the table at the front of the classroom. Please return the supplies when you are finished using them so others can use them when needed. Additionally, you should never take anything from my desk without my permission.

·  Please make sure that your name, date, and calculator number (to be assigned later) are on everything submitted for grading.

·  Cheating on any assignment will not be tolerated. Cheating will result in a referral as well as a zero grade for that assignment.

·  Most importantly, it is YOUR responsibility to make up your work when you are absent. You should check the “While You Were Out” binder and see me for all of your make up work. I will not ask for your assignments nor will I remind you that you have a test to make up. It is your duty to turn in missed classwork and/or homework for my review as well as to schedule a time to make up a missed test.

Classroom Rules:

  1. Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn everyday.
  2. Use personal electronics for educational purposes only!
  3. Be responsible for your own learning.
  4. Respect the teacher, the classroom, and other students.

Consequences:

  1. Student warning
  2. Parent contact
  3. Referral to office

Tutoring and Additional Resources:
