TEXTBOOK:Algebra, 3rd Edition. University of Chicago School Mathematics Project, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2

MATERIALS:1. TI-84 Graphing calculator4. 3 ring binder (at least 2”)

BEHAVIOR:Conduct in our classroom is guided by The Fuqua School Values. They are:

During our first class sessions, we will collectively establish definitions for acceptable and unacceptable behaviors relative to The Fuqua School Values. We will make every effort to address unacceptable behaviors working together (student, teacher, and parents/guardians).

DESCRIPTION:Algebra 1 is a course designed to teach students the fundamental principles of real numbers, graphing, data and variable manipulations. Problem solving techniques, graphing calculator usage, and real-life applications will be emphasized. Through this course, students will enhance their problem solving, mathematical communication, and reasoning analysis.

ATTENDANCE:Attendance at every class is expected, and you are responsible for all materials covered.

Make arrangements with teacher/classmate to obtain information about missed classes. Failure to make up missing work will be counted as a ‘0’; unless absence is excused.

HOMEWORK:Assignments, consisting of reading ormath problems will be handed out on a daily basis. Your success in this course will depend on how conscientiously you complete your homework. Homework grades will decrease by 25% per day late with a minimum grade of 50% for completed work.

QUIZZES:These will be given frequently throughout each unit. Each quiz counts a significant part of your marking period grade. Success on quizzes could mean the difference in passing or failing.

TESTS:There are some units that require several tests due to their size.
