Course Description:Physical Education stresses the basic skills in various individual and team activities. The majority of the time will be spent developing knowledge and skills in life-long leisure activities. Some of the possible activities may include but are not limited to table tennis, pickleball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, wiffleball, frisbee golf, basketball, kickball, football, and cardio exercises.

Clothing Expectations:

Gym clothes should be neat and clean.

Shirt : T-shirts or knit tops are acceptable. Guidelines in the student handbook will be followed. T-shirts must be long enough to stay tucked into the student’s gym shorts. The student will not be allowed to where the same shirt for PE that he/she wears during the school day.

Shorts : Shorts may be cotton or Knit and should have an elastic waistband. Please make sure that the shorts fit properly. Absolutely no cutoffs will be allowed! The student will not be allowed to wear the same shorts that he/she wears during the day.

Socks :White socks are suggested for health reasons. Nylon socks and the dye in colored socks can cause infection.

Shoes :One pair of non-marking tennis type shoes.

Hair:For safety reasons, hair that is long enough to be tied back should be secured

with a coated rubber band. Barrettes are used to keep long hair out of the

eyes.

Jewelry: For safety reasons, there is no jewelry of any kind to be worn during the

activity period (exception: Students who have recently had their ears

pierced, may bring a note from home stating when their ears were pierced,

and how long the earring must remain in the ear. The only earring allowed

for this purpose is the stud earring that they are required to where during

this time.).

Food or gum:No food or gum will be allowed during the class period. This is for safety

reasons and will result in loss of daily points after 1 warning.

Tardiness:Students are expected to be in the gym before the tardy bell rings. They are

expected to be properly dressed and sitting in their rows ready to participate five minutes after the bell rings.

Grading Scale:A=90-100

B=80-89

C=70-79

D=60-69

F=59 and below

Grading Policy:The PE Department bases its grading system on a combination

of daily points, plus written and practical test points. Points are awarded daily for coming to class on time, dressing out correctly, cooperating and participating in that day’s activity. Ten points can be earned each day. Students will earn all ten points for dressing out AND participating in the scheduled activities. Students will earn 6 out of 10 points if they do not dress out, but walk the track during the class hour. Students will earn ZERO if they do not dress out and do not walk the track.In addition, there may be written tests that will cover each of the activities presented during the semester.
