Dear parents of prospective cheerleaders,

We at AHS are pleased to have your child trying out for cheerleading for the upcoming year! In this packet you will find the necessary paperwork for tryouts. Please know that your child will not be permitted to attend tryouts without this completed in full.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT A CURRENT PHYSICAL, CURRENT MEDICAL AUTHORZIATION FORM, AND CONCUSSION PACKET MUST BE COMPLETED AND TURNED IN BEFORE YOUR CHILD WILL BE PERMITTED TO TRYOUT! These will be available at the informational parent meeting on March 31st.

We will have a mandatory informational parent meeting on Tuesday, March 31stat 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Alcovy High School. Cheerleading tryouts will be conducted a little different this year as in the past. NO TRANSPORTATION WILL BE PROVIDED FROM ANY OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS FOR TRYOUTS THIS YEAR. Basic information will be given during the meeting regarding tryouts and the upcoming year. Also, the cheerleading rules and regulations will be discussed and signed in advance of tryouts.

Tryout clinic: Alcovy High School Main Gym

High School ONLY:

Thursday, April 16th – 3:30 – 6:30 (Review of material on DVD and teach 2 new chants) and

for evaluation of tumbling and stunting for those trying out for Competition.

Friday, April 17th – 3:30 – 5:30 (Review of material on DVD and review of the 2 new chants.

Complete the evaluation of tumbling and stunting for those trying out for Competition.

Saturday, April 18th – 9:30 AM – 12:00 Noon (Final review of all material for tryouts and

final review of tumbling and stunting for those trying out for Competition.)

Saturday, Arpil 18th – 2:00 – 6:00 PM – Final tryout evaluations

Middle School ONLY:

Thursday, April 16th – 5:30 – 7:30 (Review of material on DVD and teach 2 new chants) and

for evaluation of tumbling and stunting for those trying out for Competition.

Friday, April 17th – 5:30 – 8:30 (Review of material on DVD and review of the 2 new chants.

Saturday, April 18th – 2:00 – 6:00 PM – Final tryout evaluations

Tryouts/Final Cuts:

Final cuts will occur on Saturday, April 18th. All athletes will know that day before they leave. All coaches’ decisions are final and will not be discussed. TRYOUTS ARE MADATORY!

Team meeting/Parent meeting:ALL OF THESE ARE MANDATORY!!!!!

Fundraisers:

-Coca-Cola Sale begins Monday, April 20th. All money and orders will be due Monday, May 4thwith Pickup on Wednesday, May 13th from 2:00 to 6:00. Profits will range from $2.75 to $7.00 depends on type of case.CASH OR MONEY ORDER ONLY!

-Little Caesar Pizza kits sale begins Monday, April 20th. All money and orders will be due Monday, May 4th with pickup on Wednesday, May 13th from 2:00 to 6:00. Profits will be $5.00 per kit.

-Cheer Clinic for kids ages 5 to 12 will be held on Saturday, May 9th from 9:00 to 1:00 with registration @ 8:30. Cost will be $20 per person. For each child registered by Wednesday, May 6th, $10 will go towards that cheerleader’s account. Anyone that registers after May 6th will go towards the general cheerleading fund.CASH OR MONEY ORDER ONLY!

Payments: 1st payment of $200 will be due Tues., April21st –CASH OR MONEY ORDER ONLY!

2nd payment of $200 will be due May 19th- CASH OR MONEY ORDER ONLY!

Remaining balance will be due before cheerleader will receive items.

Costs:

We will be conducting fundraisers to help offset the following costs, as well as conduct fundraisers that are for the entire team, but each cheerleader will be responsible for all costs associated with being a member of the cheerleading squad. Each cheerleader will be encouraged to obtain sponsors. The costs below are approximate. THESE ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE!

Uniform rental: $50 (per season)

Summer camp: Varsity Spirit Camp –up to $250 @ University of West Georgia July 12 – 15th

Competition Choreography Camp –up to $250 @ University of West Georgia July 12– 15th

Choreography: Competition (up to $200 per person)

Campwear/Practice wear: approx. $100

Football Jersey: $30-$40

Long Sleeve Shirt: $15 (Optional)

Duffel Bag/Backpack: $30 - $35 (Optional)

Bloomers/Briefs: $15

Shoes: $75 comp/$50 spirit

Warm ups: up to $100*

Bodyliner: $25 (Varsity/JV only)*

Bows: $25

Newton County Athletic Fee: $20 One time fee for the 2015-2016 school year

Application for Cheerleading Tryouts

My child ______has my permission to be a cheerleader at AlcovyHigh School. I understand that he/she must abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the coach, athletic director, and principal of AlcovyHigh School, and that he/she must be present for all practices and games. I have read the cheerleading constitution and understand that the violation of any of these rules may lead to temporary or permanent suspension from the squad. I understand and give permission for my daughter/son to ride with the coach and/or other parents when necessary. I understand that all forms attached must be completed by or my child will not be allowed to tryout. I understand that my child must attend all practice and tryout sessions (unless excused by the coach), or my child will not be considered for a cheerleading position. I understand that transportation must be arranged so that my child is picked up from practice and tryout sessions in a timely manner, and I understand that if I fail to do so that my child will not be considered for a spot on the team.

I understand that my daughter/son will be evaluated by the cheerleading coaching staff, and we agree to abide by the decision of the coaches. I understand that there will be no discussion regarding the selection process, including teacher recommendations.

I understand all costs involved as stated. I understand that, while fundraising will be offered to offset costs, that I will fulfill all financial obligations.

I understand that cheerleading carries a risk of physical injury. No matter how careful the participants and coaches are, how many spotters are used, or what matting is used, the risk cannot be entirely eliminated. I understand these risks and will not hold AlcovyHigh School or any of its personnel responsible in the case of accident or injury at any time.
