ALCOHOL- DRINKING AND DRIVING
MODULE INFORMATION
PURPOSE OF THE MODULE:
To assess the prevalence of adults who reported drinking and driving.
MODULE HISTORY:

- A Driving Status module was added to identify the driving status of respondents. Since that time only those respondents who indicate that they drive motor vehicles are asked the Drinking Driving module.
- Questions dd1 and dd3 were removed from the Drinking Driving module and added to the Driving Status module and renamed drv_1 and drv_2.
January 2011, Cycle 7
- Response option 6 added to question dd2 for those respondents who were identified as drivers in the Driving Status module but insist they do not drive.

Drinking and Driving – Motor Vehicle
INDICATOR DESCRIPTION:
% adults (19+) who have driven a motor vehicle in the last year after having 2 or more drinks in the hour before they drove.
INDICATOR OBJECTIVES:
To continually work with traffic enforcement agencies and community groups to address impaired driving and riding with an impaired driver (MHPSG 1997, Requirements and Standards).
ANALYSIS CHECK LIST:
- Only asked of respondents who have driven a motor vehicle in the last 12 months (dd1=1). (As of January 2004, drive1=1)
- Exclude adults that do not drive (tv1=7 or dd1=7 or dd1=5) (As of January 2004, drv_1=5)

Drinking and Driving – Recreational Vehicle
INDICATOR DESCRIPTION:
% adults (19+) who have driven a recreational vehicle (e.g. snowmobile, boat or all-terrain vehicle) in the last year after having 2 or more drinks in the hour before they drove.
INDICATOR OBJECTIVES:
To reduce the rate of injuries caused by cycling crashes and motorized vehicle crashes including boats, snowmobiles, and all terrain vehicles that lead to hospitalization or death by 20 percent by the year 2010 (MHPSG, 1997)
To reduce the rate of alcohol and other sub stance related injuries or deaths by 20 percent by the year 2010
To continually work with traffic enforcement agencies and community groups to address impaired driving and riding with an impaired driver (MHPSG, Requirements and Standards, 1997).
ANALYSIS CHECK LIST:
- Only asked of respondents who have driven a recreational vehicle in the last 12 months (dd3=1). (As of January 2004, drv_2=1)
