Position:Trio Project Specialist- Multiple Positions (Monroeville, Thomasville, Gilbertown)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Counseling, Education, Business, Administration, Fiscal Management, Student Personnel or related field.
- Experience in working with students from low income, academically disadvantaged populations preferred.
- Ability to collect and interpret test data.
- Good writing and verbal skills.
- Excellent Presentation and interpersonal skills
Position Summary:
The Trio Project Specialist is responsible for the implementation of Program activities such as academic counseling, academic advising, tutorials, workshops, seminars, trips, cultural enrichment, developing educational, career and life goals, maintaining well-organized records and activities, and other activities in accordance with the requirements specified in the respective grant application and amendments approved by the U. S. Department of Education. The Project Specialist performs all other duties as directed by the Program Director.
Duties:
At a minimum, the essential functions of the Trio Project Specialist shall include:
- Developing and implementing Program activities as assigned by the respective Trio Program Director.
- Assisting and/or administering a battery of assessments, interest inventories, and other related assessments and inventories as assigned by the respective Trio Program Director.
- Assisting the respective Trio Program Director in the selection process of eligible Program participants.
- Assisting the respective Trio Program Director in designing and conducting orientation sessions for assigned Trio Program participants and parents.
- Assisting participants of the respective Trio Program in developing educational and life goals.
- Preparing, writing, and updating the assigned Trio Program Curriculum Guides, preparing course syllabi and selecting, supervising, and evaluating classroom teachers providing Program instructional services if assigned to the Educational Talent Search Program or the Upward Bound Program.
- Submitting for approval by the respective Trio Program Director, a master schedule for assigned Program activities and services.
- Implementing the approved master schedule for assigned Programs and services.
- Assisting participants with academic advising at the appropriate educational level relative to the respective Trio Program. These responsibilities include the development of action plans for all assigned participants in accordance with the requirements specified in the respective grant application and amendments approved by the U. S. Department of Education.
- Conducting and supervising tutorial sessions.
- Making, where appropriate, home phone calls to parents and participants.
- Diagnosing academic needs and placing all participants in appropriate classes for the assigned Trio Program.
- Establishing and maintaining cumulative folders on individual participants in assigned Trio Program in accordance with the specifications of the respective grant application and amendments approved by the U. S. Department of Education.
- Securing, where appropriate, grade and attendance reports from faculty on all participants of the assigned Trio Program and academic counseling to those participants who need additional assistance and implementing additional assistance as needed.
- Assisting the respective Trio Program Director in identifying and recruiting dropouts eligible for Trio Program activities and services.
- Conducting financial aid workshops for Trio Program participants and potential participants.
- Assisting participants in securing, where appropriate, transfer scholarships.
- Assisting participants, where appropriate, with transfer admissions and related processes assigned by the respective Trio Program Director.
- Assisting the respective Trio Program Director in the academic counseling of participants.
- Working closely, where appropriate, with high school counselors to assist Trio Program participants to select courses in accordance with their action plan.
- Accompanying Program participants on cultural enrichment activities and industry visits.
- Sponsoring and accompanying participants on College tours to selected in-state institutions.
- Maintaining positive working relationships with the College faculty and staff community network.
- Assisting the respective Trio Program Director in maintaining Program rosters and providing follow-up data for federal reports.
- Assisting with project outcomes assessment and participant follow-up activities.
- Maintaining comprehensive, timely, and accurate follow-up records for all assigned Trio Program participants.
- Assisting the respective Trio Program Director in writing yearly narrative progress reports on success of Program participants to be submitted to the U. S. Department of Education.
- Attending all staff meetings, College faculty meetings, and professional development activities.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft office and data base programs.
- Weekend work for Trio Project Specialist assigned to the Upward Bound Program will be required.
- Extensive travel will be required for Trio Project Specialist assigned to the Educational Talent Search.
- Proficient in developing and analyzing reports.
- Free from racial and ethnic bias.
Salary:Salary level is based on Alabama Community College System, Schedule C-3 ($30,000-$45,000).This is aNon-Tenure track position.
