Eligibility

Nominees must have been employed in the applicable category by a public safety agency any time betweenOctober 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016. Nominees do not have to be members of Alabama NENA.

Sample Responsibilities
Functions as a front line supervisor of Telecommunications personnel, whether actual operations or in a support function.

  1. Supervises Telecommunicators in their role as call processors or dispatchers or both.
  2. Manages available resources (personnel, systems, etc.) to get the job done, whether daily routine or during emergencies and disasters.
  3. Manages and interfaces with multiple levels within and outside their chain of command.
  4. Knowledgeable of systems and procedures associated with Emergency Communications.
  5. Practices both decision making and multitasking skills.
  6. Able to provide mentoring and management of personnel to get commitment to the job and the goals of the shift/office/agency.
  7. Resolves personnel disputes and rule infractions tactfully and expediently.

Shift Supervisor, Shift Administrator, Sgt., Lt,. Captain, Shift Manager, Lead, Supervisor in Charge, Senior Dispatcher, etc.

The Criteria

  1. Describe the nominee’s public safety communications agency. Please include staffing levels, size, and discipline (law, fire, EMS, PSAP only, etc.).
  1. Describe the nominee’s daily and additional pertinent duties and responsibilities.
  1. Tell us how long the nominee has been at this job and any previous public safety communications positions the nominee has held.
  1. Describe how the nominee functions as a team player, supervisor and leader.
  1. Describe how the nominee demonstrates his or her knowledge of their profession and flexibility in task assignments. Provide an example of how the nominee may go above and beyond what may be required of an individual in this position.
  1. Describe the nominee’s personal and professional interaction with peers and customers as well as other agencies.
  1. Describe the nominee’s overall performance throughout the year.
  1. Explain how the nominee exemplifies “customer service” skills that often define how the employees or public that they support as well as other agencies that they work with perceive them and their job performance or tasks.
