6 BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK

6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY

Adult populations are the economic back bone of family. In the name of modernization and rapid urbanization has dramatically changed life style even among the rural population and this lead to emergency of chronic non communicable diseases. Diabetes mellitus and Hypertension are among the top list.

Diabetes mellitus and Higher blood pressure (Hypertension) are the major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, stroke & renal diseases4. Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension if undiagnosed or inadequately treated develop multiple chronic complications leading to irreversible disability and death. In accordance with the “RULES OF HALVES”. 50% of people do not know about their Higher Blood Pressure and Diabetes Mellitus 4.

In developing countries these diseases mainly affecting the productive period of their lives. In adequacies in primary health care system which are not designed to cope with the additional challenges posed by the chronic non-communicable diseases, results in poor detection of cases, suboptimal treatment and insufficient follow up leading to unnecessary disabilities and severe complication ,resulting in early death.

The life style acting as risk in causing the Madhu Meha (Diabetes mellitus) and Vyanapra Bala (Hypertension) has been explained in Ayurvedic classics.

Hence the present study is undertaken for early detection of these diseases and to find out remedial measures to reduce the disability and death.
