TITLE: Executive Director

TYPE: Exempt – Based on 30 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY

Executive Director Job Responsibilities

  • Support and communicateAitkin County CARE, Inc.’s nonprofit servicemission while enhancing itspublic image.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to provide new services and grow/improve existing programs.
  • Fully support and enable full fiscal transparency and accountability in accordance with MinnesotaState and Federal laws and non-profit accounting guidelines.
  • Manage and control budgeting processes; oversee income and expenditures for the agency.
  • OverseeCARE’s fundraising and marketing activities.
  • Provide input to the Board of Directors on organizational topics, service operations and other topics as directed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing/Communications

  • Acts as an ambassador for the agency; serves as the principal spokesperson, advocate and educator
  • Developsan effective marketing planthat uses limited dollars to maximum potential.
  • Promotespublic awareness through speaking engagements, news media, interviews, educational events, etc.
  • Develop and cultivate donor relationships with grants managers, government agencies, community organizations, and individual donors.
  • Oversees fundraising events

Fiscal Oversight

  • Oversee financial management for the organization; ensuring long term sustainability and organizational viability.
  • Prepare and present annual operational budgets in a timely manner for Board of Director approval.
  • Provide periodic financial reporting, including but not limited to Balance Sheets, Profit and Loss Statements and Budget to Actual information.
  • Manage and monitor income and expenditures to adequately provide for programs and overhead costs.
  • Adhere to applicable state and federal laws and regulations for a nonprofit organization; includes IRS filing requirements, independent reviews, State of MN registration, etc.
  • Oversee payroll processes or services; ensuring compliance with applicable laws and best practices.
  • Oversee preparation and timely submission of grant applications and associated reporting.
  • Oversee fee for service revenue and sliding fee scale services to ensure a balanced program budget.

Operational Management

  • Provide operational and informational updates and reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Develop, administer, report and market Aitkin County CARE, Inc. programs and services.
  • Execute and administer grant contracts, grant reporting, vendor invoices and vendor contracts as needed for theagency.
  • Hire, recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and terminate CARE employees.
  • Ensure overall program integrity, program quality/excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Approve printed materials intended for public distribution including, but not limited to, letters, invitations, flyers, posters, brochures, website and newsletters.
  • Manage and cultivate volunteers and volunteer programs; includes program activities, adherence to policy, and recognition activities.

The Executive Director will perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by the Aitkin County CARE, Inc. Board of Directors.

  • Proven ability to meet fundraising goals.
  • Excellent speaking and writing abilities.
  • Strong desire to improve the quality of life for senior citizens and disabled adults.
  • Self-directed task manager, able to prioritize competing tasks to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to perform/oversee grantwriting and accurately manage grant reporting responsibilities.
  • Able to adjust to changing priorities and market conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability; willing to take calculated risk while maintaining compliance with direction set by the Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize standard office software and technology, and to operate standard office machines such as printers, fax machines, scanners, calculators, copy machines, telephones and other equipment.
  • Must have auto insurance coverage that meets the minimum requirements of Minnesota State Law on the vehicle used for work.
  • Familiarity with non-profit operations and financial reporting requirements.
  • Four year degree or equivalent management experience.
  • Three plus years nonprofit experience.
  • Experience managing staff/personnel.
