Dutchtown High School

Air Force JROTC Department

6 January 2015

Dear Parents and Cadets:

Dutchtown High School Air Force JROTC is hosting its third annualAir Force JROTC dining-in on Friday, 6 February, from 5:45pm to approximately 8:15pm. As mentioned in our January 2015welcome/overview letter and Spring 2015 syllabus, attendance at this event is a required, graded event for all JROTC cadets and will be scored in two major assessment categories. Students who do not attend will receive a “0”. Students must arrive by 5:45 so that they can sign in to receive credit for attending and go through the receiving line.

Cost is only $5 (cash or money order), which is only one-third of the actual cost for this catered event. The $5 fee is due by 30 January so that we can make final arrangements with the caterers.

The Air Force dining-in is a formal military tradition similar to a formal banquet. It provides an opportunity for organizations, such as Air Force JROTC, to experience camaraderie and espirit de corps outside of the organization’s normal operating paradigm. The JROTC dining-in also provides students an opportunity to experience formal etiquettes to which they are not routinely exposed.

Our guest speaker is a 2011 graduate of Dutchtown High School and our Air Force JROTC program. She is Senior Airman Kandice (Camp) Waddell. She was the DHS JROTC cadet group commander for the 2010-11 school year and achieved numerous JROTC successes throughout her four years in the program, and continues to stand out as an “All-time Top 10 Cadet” of all the years of the program’s operation. She is currently an aerospace medical technician in the Air Force Reserves.

In addition to the guest speaker, the dining-in program will include a grog bowl (formal procedures taught and practiced in class prior to the event), a tribute to military POWs/MIAs (prisoners of war/missing in action), a wonderful catered dinner chosen with input from the cadets, a special tribute to JROTC seniors, a salute to JROTC III cadets, and some field trip give-a-ways. Cadet leaders will plan and execute the entire event.

Cadets are required to wear the Air Force JROTC uniform (tie/tab, windbreaker) and exercise the highest degree of grooming standards.
