PROCEDURES:

1. Check in with your team captain at the start of your shift.

2. Wear your volunteer shirt the entire time you are at the aid station.

3. If any issue arises i.e. supply shortage, inform your team captain right away. There will also be a HAM radio operator at every aid station to facilitate communication between aid stations and the race organizers.

4. Check out with your team captain at the end of your shift.

Tables

Please space tables roughly 10 feet apart from one another. If your station has Fluid electrolyte drink please use the last 2 tables for Fluid. On the way out, the runners will hit water first and then Fluid second (on the return trip the runners would hit the Fluid first and water second.)

If your station has Clif energy gel use the last table only to spread them out on.

Water

You will need to puncture the top of the water jugs to help them flow faster. Always have at least two (2) people refilling cups while the others hand out cups. The tables should be fully covered with cups.

Fluid Electrolyte Drink / Clif Energy Gel

Make Fluid with the ratio of 4 gallons of water to one bag of Fluid. Top with ice if available. Use the yard stick to stir the Fluid as best you can. Fill cups with roughly ¾ of liquid. Make sure two tables are covered with cups. Also make sure the top lid is not tight as this will prevent the Fluid from draining properly. As you near the end of the 5-gallon jug make another batch. Spread the gels out on the last table and hand them out. Put one in each hand as you hand them out.

Trash Cans & Trash During Event

Space trash cans out roughly 20 feet apart after the last table. After the last runner has gone past on the way out, move the trash cans to the opposite side for the runners’ return trip.

Make sure course is clear of cups. Have one or two volunteers rake cups off the course and put them in trash bags. Do not get in the way of the runners. Be careful.

Check trash cans periodically and if they are almost full, tie them off and put a new bag in.

Cheer & Make Some Noise!!!

Clean Up

●Please walk at least 200 meters (2 football fields) in both directions of your aid station and pick up all trash (cups, gel wrappers, etc.) Put all trash in the trash bags and tie them off.

●Be sure to remove trash bags from trash cans and tie them off and stack them together.

●Please wipe down and break down tables and stack them on top of each other.

●Please empty out any open/punctured water jugs and please dump out any Fluid mix in the 5- gallon coolers. Please step on and smash down the empty water containers.

●Please keep everything close together and neatly organized so it is easy for the pick up crew.

Emergency / Medical

In the case of an emergency let the radio operator call it in or call 911.

In the event of minor scrapes or cuts give participants necessary supplies in the first aid kit and have the participant use what they need. Do not treat them yourself. Simply give them what they need and let them open it and apply it.
