Meeting Summary:

  • AIA Arizona Associate Director – Char officially announced Andrea Lucarelli as the new AIA Assoc Director. Leslie is the AIA State Director.
  • AIA Annual Report available thru Charnissa Moore.

1)More Associate Communication:
  • AIA Arizona Associates face book group page - We will be using the page to post information, event invitations and hold discussions also it will serve as a tool to help build comradeship among associate members, join the group and get to know other members.
  • AIA Forum – The Phx Metro Chapter Forum is being revived as a portal for discussions on anything related to the profession and licensing. Join the forum to view discussions and connect with people.

2)Associate Help with Licensure, Architecture:
  • CAAF ARE Grant – This year’s grant just opened and is due Nov 9, 09. Grant application requirements are listed on their website. To qualify, applicant must have Authorization to Test from Prometric.
  • Jason Pedigree Leadership Scholarship (Western Mountain Region) – Scholarship deadline passed, but for next year – Assoc. AIA involvement and future involvement can win grant to Grassroots Conference.
  • Jason Pedigree Leadership ARE Grant – Typically due in January – with community involvement and Authorization to Test winners will get award at AIA National Convention in Miami and win all Kaplan 4.0 study material.
  • ARE Study Hall Fridays – Informal study sessions are being held every Friday @ AIA Arizona Office from 1-5pm, come and study for ARE / LEED exams. Check the face book wall out for current info. or email Kavita Kumar or more information and to be added to study group email list. **Also if you’re interested in sharing any study materials a discussion tab has been created on the group FB page.
  • ARE 911 – Have specificquestions or need a general overview? Group tutoring for ARE tests is being offered by by successful candidates. Contact AIA Office for more info.
  • Paper Party – Next Paper Party coming up in March on a Saturday. We will be teleconferencing with the Tucson Office.

3)Associate Comradeship / Mentorship
  • AIA Assoc Video – A video outlining the efforts by the Associate group was made by Suad and fellow associates and sent to AIA National to inform them of the role we play in their strategic plan for the Architecture Community.
  • IIDA Couture Design Competition – February 11, 2010 @ The Phoenix Art Museum – Do you like to design clothes? Want to be a model? We're looking for a group of Associates, and 4 presenting team members, who want to participate in the IIDA (International Interior Design Association) Couture competition of creating clothes from a palette of provided materials, if interested contact Charnissa Moore or Karla Grijalva . Interested participants will create charettes and bounce ideas to create the winning design. **For more information check out the discussion board in Facebook for more Info or add your experiences from last year!
  • Young Architects Forum,YAF – YAF National is looking for feedback from people on Emerging Professionals. Leslie will be posting to Facebook wall.
  • ASU Western Quad Conference – AIAS @ ASU is getting people together from Greenbuild to attend this conference. Please contact Qian Dong (see facebook wall for invite)
  • Next Phoenix Associate lunch @ AIA Phx Office on November 19th 12-1 – The next associate lunch meeting will be in Tempe Casey Moore Restaurant, 850 S Ash Ave · Tempe (480) 968-9935

4)Ways to Get Involved
  • Get Involved – AIA Phx has 12 knowledge committees (committee on Environment, Membership, Communications etc.). You can join any of them and interact with people to work on future goals of the chapter. **As always ANY associate member that would like to become more involved is welcomed! Please post on the Associate Facebook wall of any volunteer needs or event ideas.
  • Volunteers needed - Architecture Week at the Home Tour in April 2010. Contact Diana Smith to sign up!
