In memory of Shmuel ‘Sam’ Ashkenazi, February 11, 2013, Beit Hagdudim, Avichail

We respectfully invite you to a conference of citrus farmers and a display of citrus varieties in memory of the late Shmuel ‘Sam’ Ashkenazi, the varieties man and director of the Citrus Department at the Agricultural Extension Service, to commemorate 20 years since his death.
The event will be held on Monday February 11, 2013, 1st of Adar 5773, at 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at Beit Hagdudim in Moshav Avichail

The conference program includes

8:00 a.m.- Meeting, light refreshments and a citrus variety display

8:30 a.m. - Introductory address – Mr. Hanan Bazak, Director of the Agricultural Extension Service; Zvi Alon, Director General of the Plant Board; Dr. Yossi Greenberg, Director of the Fruits Division, the Agricultural Extension Service

8:50 a.m.- Addresses in memory of the late Shmuel ‘Sam’ Ashkenazi

9:00 a.m.- Objectives of the Ministry of Agriculture for the next five years– Mr. Yossi Yishai, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture

9:30 – 11:10 a.m. – First session: marketing and markets

9:30 a.m.- Israel’s competitive ability in export markets in the world in view of increasing threats.

11.20 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Second session: research and development of new varieties

11:20 a.m.- Treatment for increasing crop yields, regulating yields and increasing fruit size – Dr. Yossi Greenberg, Agricultural Extension Service

11:40 a.m. - New directions in research and development of variety improvement – Dr. Nir Carmi, Research Administration.

12:00 p.m.- The Odem mandarin – development of growing methods for improving fruit quality – Shuki Kanonicz, Agricultural Extension Service

12:20 p.m. - Characterization of ripening and flavor indices in new citrus varieties: Odem, Einat (Redson) and Aliza – Dr. Ron Porat, Agricultural Research Administration

12:40 p.m.- Salination in the aspect of fruit quality and variety / stock combinations – Dr. Eran Raveh, Research Administration
