HONOR/COLOR GUARD

REQUEST FOR SERVICES

The American GI Forum (AGIF) Honor/Color Guard is a uniformed group of military veterans organized to perform graveside honors for deceased veterans of the community who choose to be buried in a civilian cemetery where such services are not automatically available as they are at a military cemetery. The group is also available to perform presentation of colors or flag raising ceremonies at community events, meetings, and conferences.

The AGIF Honor/Color Guard is a volunteer group with some members still working in professional careers, so requests for presentation of colors or flag raising must be submitted at least ten (10) days in advance in order to allow us to determine whether or not we can muster enough members to perform the requested services.

Because funeral services are not normally arranged very far in advance, we only require requests for our services three (3) days in advance. We will make every effort to accommodate these requests.

Description of services:

Funeral services for veterans can be coordinated with your mortuary. The AGIF Honor Guard can provide either: (1) a rifle salute and bugler (for playing Taps) or (2) pallbearers, flag folding, and bugler. Because of manpower requirements for those ceremonies, we cannot offer both services at the same time. There is no charge for these services.

Presentation of Colors includes three to five members of the AGIF Color Guard. We can use our flags and stands or yours if you have them available. We can also provide a bugler for playing Taps if you desire. Organizations usually make their own arrangements for someone to sing the National Anthem or lead the Pledge of Allegiance or recite a prayer. We do not charge for this service, but appreciate a donation to cover our expenses*.

Flag Raising includes at least five members of the AGIF Color Guard. Since the flag is being raised on your pole, we require that you provide the flag. Again, we do not charge for this service, but appreciate a donation to cover our expenses*.
