Age Group Game Formats

Pre – Kindergarten Format: 3 v 3 No Goal Keeper Start Time: See event calendar Referees: Parent/Coach Referees Duration: Four 6-minute quarters. 2-minute breaks between quarters. 5-minute halftime. Special Notes: No offsides rule. No penalty kicks (only free kicks). Referees need to explain each infraction to players. Repeat throw-ins for errors, and explain what was wrong.

1st-2nd grade girls and boys: NEW RULES STARTING FALL 2017-

  • No Heading and No Punting
  • Build Out Zones
    - Opponent must drop behind Build Out line on goal kick or Goalkeeper possession to facilitate playing out of the back
    - Build Out lines equidistant between top of penalty area and halfway line. Until the build out lines get painted by the city all teams will use the halfway line as the build out line.

3rd – 5th grade girls and boys: Game Format– Games are played in 9 vs 9 format with one being the goal keeper. Games consist of two 25-minute halves. Observe a 5-minute halftime period. Offsides will NOT necessarily be called. If there is blatantoffsides happening please be honest and good coaches and police yourselves...pull your players back and still teach them the rule. However, with limited referees available and it being the hardest infraction to call we have pulled it from this age group.

3rd-5th grade girls and boys: NEW RULES STARTING FALL 2017 –

  • No Heading and No Punting
  • Build Out Zone- Opponent must drop to edge of center circle on goal kick or Goalkeeper possession to facilitate playing out of the back

5th – 8th grade co-ed: Game Format– Games are played in 11 vs 11 format with one being the goal keeper. Games consist of two 30-minute halves. Observe a 10-minute halftime period.

5th – 8thRules– Offsides is enforced, and penalty kicks are taken as appropriate.
