Position Description

Position Title: / Respite Support Worker / Assistant Trip Leader

Hours Per week: / As directed by Age & DisAbility Services Team

Any special conditions: / Casual $25.58 per hour
Key Summary of Functions:
Age and DisAbility Services provides recreational respite care for children and adults with a disability. This position is responsible for working with clients requiring general respite and for clients with Respite Support packages. Members of the Age and DisAbility Services team will work in a way that promotes human dignity and creates conditions for social justice and equity.

Key Duties:

  • To support the implementation of respite care activities (Day and overnight camps).
  • To work as an effective team member.
  • To meet families, collect medication and medication booklets at beginning of activity as directed by the Trip Leader.
  • Identify needs of participants and be able to work to provide positive outcomes for those participants that are involved in the DisAbility Services programs.
  • To be involved in personal care duties such as toileting, showering, dressing and feeding.
  • To work in a manner to ensure a safe and meaningful respite experience to all participants, using the Active Service Model approach.
  • To provide feedback to parents/carers andcamp coordinator about activity.
  • To complete and submit to the Camp Coordinator in conjunction with the Trip Leader:
  • Expenditure Forms
  • Evaluation Forms
  • Incident Report Forms
  • Ensure all administrative and reporting requirements of the program are completed and submitted to the relevant organisations within the appropriate timeframe
  • Use principles of best practice to provide an innovative and responsive program.
  • Maintain current and accurate case notes, records and statistical information.
  • Staff are responsible for upholding consumer rights, privacy, confidentiality and informed consent.
  • All UCG staff are responsible for identifying, monitoring, resolving and reviewing OH&S and risk management issues.
  • Undertake review and evaluation of program and professional practice.
  • Comply with organisational effectiveness strategies of UnitingCare Gippsland, including development of quality plans, personal objectives and training plans.
  • Respect the diverse needs of all community groups and individuals to ensure that their needs are met in an inclusive and sensitive manner.
  • Participate in agency quality accreditation processes.
  • Other duties as directed.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

  1. Clear police check, Working with Children Check, and Current Victorian Drivers License.
  2. Disability/ Community relevant qualifications (minimum Certificate IV). First Aid Certificate Level 2 also required.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to work as a member of a team.
  4. Ability to develop creative solutions to issues that arise within the community or workplace, particularly relating to offsite activities.
  5. Flexibility regarding working hours, including weekend and overnight work.
  6. Demonstrated ability to relate positively to a large range of people from diverse backgrounds, particularly people with disabilities.
  7. Sound interpersonal, problem solving, negotiation and organisational skills.
  8. Able to work within the values, philosophy and vision of this UnitingCare Agency.

Desirable:

Experience working with people with a disability within a group setting or one to one support.
