AGE CYMRU SIR GÂRJOB DESCRIPTION

Title: / Advocate Manager for the Help to be Heard Advocacy Project
Base: / At an Age Cymru Sir Gâr office in either Llanelli or Carmarthen
(to be confirmed - travel around the county is essential)
Salary: / £24,060.29per annum plus 10% employer pension contribution
Hours / 37 hours per week (flexible within normal working hours and as
required by the post) (some out of normal hours working may be necessary)
Contract duration: / This is a 1 year contract subject to annual review and appraisal and funding ending May 2017
Reporting to: / Chief Officer
Accountable to: / Board of Trustees
Holiday entitlement: / 28 days (inclusive of statutory holidays)
Purpose of job; / To deliver a generic advocacy service
Aim of the project: / Supporting people in Carmarthenshire aged 50+ to have a voice
Supervisory responsibility: / 1 x staff member and a team of volunteers

This is a new service funded by the BIG Lottery Fund People & PlacesProgramme.

MAIN DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To deliver the service in accordance with the Project Plan under supervision of Chief Officer and Trustee Board
  • To work to the Advocacy Quality Performance Standard and work towards obtaining the Quality Mark and to take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of a high quality advocacy service
  • To attend meetings relevant to the delivery of advocacy throughout Carmarthenshire
  • To recruit, induct, train, supervise and support a team of volunteer advocates on a day-to-day basis supported by an administrator.
  • To line manage and supervise the volunteer advocacy team, and the project administrator
  • To respond in a sensitive manner to contact by clients
  • To observe confidentiality
  • To oversee the development of staff and volunteers through access to appropriate training and development opportunities
  • To perform advocacy duties for complex cases and safeguarding cases and to delegate general advocacy cases to volunteers
  • To produce accurate management reports for the board of trustees, key stakeholders, including the BIG Lottery Fund and to attend management and contract monitoring meetings and be the BIG Lottery Fund liaison for this project
  • To co-ordinate and participate in the external evaluation and to facilitate access to clients, staff and volunteers for the external evaluator
  • To develop and manage effective working relationships with key agencies across the county and to create referral pathways
  • To attend Advocacy Strategy Group meetings for the Hywel Dda Health board area
  • To act as a member of county safeguarding adult networks to promote the service and to support the development of good practice
  • To manage the project budget and ensure that accurate financial information is available to all stakeholders at all times
  • To provide accurate and regular claims for travel and subsistence costs
  • To participate in continuous training and development opportunities
  • To work as a team with volunteers and other Age Cymru Sir Gâr staff members.
  • To liaise and link with other Age Cymru Sir Gâr departments and projects as and when required and participate in organisational meetings.
  • To ensure that the service is delivered in accordance, and complies with all Age Cymru Sir Gâr policies, proceduresand organisational systems
  • To manage the collation of client data and ensure electronic record keeping (Charity Log) in accordance with the Age Cymru Sir Gâr Data Protection Policy.

Experience of grant funding monitoring processes and procedures / 
An understanding of quality assurance processes and procedures / 

IT literate / 
Ability to communicate effectively / 
