After School Enrichment Programs

  • If you would like your child to participate in any of the programs, please complete the registration form and return it to Lauren Jenkins in the LS office. Program fees are to be paid to the Business Office. You will be invoiced for this fee.Programs are scheduled to begin the week of September 8, 2017. If you have general questions, please contact Lauren Jenkins or Dawn Burt. If you have questions regarding program details, please contact the instructor of that program.
  • Please understand that when you enroll in an After School Enrichment Program, you are committing your child to the entire year. No clubs will be meeting in the month of December with the exception of LS Chorus, which has holiday performances already scheduled.
  • Most classes have maximum enrollment limits, so registration is contingent upon date of receipt of application.
  • All program offerings are contingent upon sufficient enrollment and instructor availability.
  • Refunds are not provided or pro-rated for partial months due to withdrawals. Parents must notify, in writing,the class instructor, Lauren Jenkins (LS Office) and Tina McLaurin (Business Office) of withdrawals prior to the beginning of the month. Withdrawals MUST be received prior to the first of the month or the student will be billed for the entire month of class.

Program:Lower School Chorus–(Grades 3-5)

Instructor:Lee Ann Valcarcel

Description:This enrichment program is for the student who loves to sing! Students in this ensemble will represent our school in performances both on campus and in the community. Instruction will center on vocal technique for the young singer, developing musicianship skills, and encouraging positive peer interaction that will build character and confidence while making awesome memories!

*This group will perform regularly throughout the school year.

* Due to the nature of the performances, special attire will be required at an additional fee, which will be sent home by Mrs. V at a later date.

Program:Kids Fit for Life Club-(Grades-K-3)

Instructor:Karin Levesque

Description:Come join us for an after-school program filled with a fun variety of activities to improve overall fitness. Program will also focus on making healthy food choices to be fit for life.

Program:LS Spanish Club (Grades 3-6)

Instructor:Grace Lee and Rubi Blancas

Description:Want to have a fiesta? Taco Tuesday? Join us on Tuesdays for Spanish fun! We will bake cookies to buy a llama, make arts and crafts, hold cooking lessons, performances and make new friends by connecting to Pen Pals in Latin America, among many other activities.

(Limit: 18 students)

Program:Crafternoons (Grades PK-5)

Instructor:Deborah Reavis and Laura Reeves

Description:Come spend the “crafternoon” with the double R’s! We will be trying a variety of art techniques with different media throughout the school year. If you like arts and crafts or just being creative, this is the place for you! All lessons will be age appropriate.

Program:Clay Creation Station! (PK-5)

Instructor:Deborah Reavis and Laura Reeves

Description: Calling all potters! If you like building and making things with your hands, come join us for Clay Creation Station. We will be making 3D art projects all year long! Media will include model magic, modeling clay, polymer clay (sculpy), air-dry clay, and earthenware clay. All lessons will be age appropriate.

(Limit: 15 students)

Program: All-American Girl-(Grades K-5)

Instructor:Dawn Burt and Amanda Young

Description:Follow your inner star and be an all-American girl! Develop good character traits, healthy living habits, giving back to the community and becoming an all-American girl with this afterschool enrichment. Some of the activities may include: visiting local assisted living homes, making cards for deployed troops, developing healthy recipes, emphasizing exercise on an age-appropriate level and focusing on bringing the best out in each other.

Program:Whacky Tracks (A Boomwhacker Musical)- (Grades 1-2)

Instructor: LeeAnn Valcarcel

Description: Have your children ever mentioned the brightly colored tubes that hang out in the music room? The ones they can bang on the floor to make music? If they have they might be interested in this enrichment program. Whacky Tracks (A Boomwhacker Musical) is a mini musical play written for just for young performers. During this class your child will learn singing, movement, simple music notation skills, acting and public speaking skills, and get to play with the boomwhackers as we work through the script and rehearse for this mini show. There will be a special performance in January for the students involved.

Program:Games! Games! Games! (Grades 3-5)

Instructor:Liz Prince

Description:Does your child enjoy board games, but you don’t have enough time or players to play together? Maybe your child wants to try new games and spend time with friends. If so, I’ve got the after school club for him/her!Your child will think he/she is just having fun, but playing board games is an education in and of itself. Students will learn many important social skills, such as communicating verbally, sharing, taking turns, and enjoying time with peers. Board games can help your child become more organized, patient, and mature. We will meet in Liz Prince’s room for some friendly, casual, game board playing!!!

Program:NC Spurs Soccer-(Grades PK-6)

Instructor:Jimmy Maher and Andrew McCarthy

Description:The NC Spurs Mini-Eagles soccer program uses fun, developmentally appropriate games and activities to teach both basic and advanced skills of the most participated youth sport in the United States: SOCCER! The Mini-Eagles program is designed to enhance your child’s ability to dribble, shoot, and pass the soccer ball, while simultaneously developing both their health and performance related fitness. Participants are guaranteed to have a blast each week and be filled with excitement for their next Mini-Eagles class!

Meetings:Tuesdays-3:15-4:15 lower school playground and soccer fields (pick up is in front of Fine Arts Building)
