KOREAN CULTURE CAMP 2001

Adoptive Families Support Association announces its thirteenth annual Culture Camp for Korean-American children. Camp will be held Wednesday, July 18th through Sunday, July 22nd at a new facility: St. Leonard Youth Retreat Center in Avon, Ohio, which is about 20 miles west of downtown Cleveland.

The program is open to children ages 7 (who have completed first grade) through 17 years. Its’ purpose is to develop a positive self-image among Korean-American children. Through participation in games, crafts, and music, and exposure to the foods, language, and history of Korea, campers will develop a greater understanding and appreciation of their cultural heritage. We will also have plenty of regular camp activities such as hiking, sports and a Saturday night campfire.

An adult staff of at least 14 is planned; 8 or 9 Korean-American counselors and 6 to 8 AFSA parents. Some of the older campers will be “Big Sibs”, assisting counselors with the young children. All campers sleep in dormitories with adult supervision.

Camp fees are $225 for your first child, $210 for your second and $200 for each child beyond two. Everyone involved with camp, including the counselors, do so on a voluntary basis, with only a portion of their expenses being paid. These efforts help keep the cost of camp very reasonable.

You may pre-register by sending $50 per camper along with the registration form by May 21st. This will reserve a space at camp for your child(ren). The balance of the registration fee must be completely paid by June 25th. Our space is limited, so register early. No refunds for cancellations will be made after Sunday, July 1st.

By mid-June, each pre-registered family will be mailed a packet containing a bill for the remainder of the camp fee, information on what to bring, a map and directions to the camp.
