African Women in Leadership Network

Call for Participation

The Australian Government launched an African Women in Leadership Network. This Network offers an opportunity for Australia Awards alumni (female) to engage in discussions on issues affecting women and to share their views on ways to further advance opportunities for African women. Women in this Network help to increase opportunities for other women from their home countries by promoting the Australia Awards and by supporting awardees as they embark on their award experience. This is an exciting opportunity for female alumni from across Africa to make a difference.

Members of the African Women in Leadership Network prove invaluable assistance to other women in the following areas:

Scholarship Promotion

As alumni (women), you can inform other women about Australia Awards in various ways:

·  Inform your family, friends and work colleagues

·  Disseminate Australia Awards information through your professional networks

·  Distribute pamphlets and/or share the link for the Australia Awards website with other women

·  Speak at information sessions and Pre-Departure Briefings for new or departing awardees

·  Connect to Australia Awards alumni associations in countries where these are present to support their efforts in disseminating Australia Awards information to other women

Peer Support to New Awardees

Your valuable experience in Australia can assist other women. You can assist new awardees from your country before departure and in the first few months in Australia via email or social media in a number of ways:

·  Share your experiences about living in Australia

·  Share tips about studying in Australian higher education institutions

·  Connect new awardees with compatriots who may still be studying in Australia

Leading Change

Participation in this Network offers an opportunity for successful women like you to engage with your counterparts from across Africa in discussions on issues affecting women and to share your valuable insights into ways to further advance opportunities for African women. Members of this Network are encouraged to engage with relevant stakeholders and provide leadership for gender and development initiatives in their home country.

Nature of Engagement and Benefits of Participation

Engagement in the African Women in Leadership Network is on a volunteer basis. GRM-Australia Awards will cover the costs (accommodation and airfare, as applicable) of members’ participation in Australia Awards operations when they are invited to do so. Once registered, participants will be contacted by an Officer who will connect members with opportunities for engagement.

There are several benefits to alumni (female) who engage in this Network. These include opportunities for networking with members from across Africa; possible learning and professional development opportunities through engagement in some Australia Awards operations; and the visibility that may accrue from membership.
