African Country Map Requirements

  1. You must draw or trace the outline of your country and the bordering countries.
  1. You must get the outline of your 1st draft approved by the teacher before you begin labeling.
  1. You must get your 1st draft labeling approved by the teacher before you begin your final copy outline.
  1. You must get your final copy outline approved by the teacher before you begin labeling. After this final approval, you may complete the final product. The next time you meet with the teacher, it will be to grade the final map.
  1. Your maps must include:

at least 5 different physical features (multiple examples of one physical feature count ONLY as one physical feature)

at least 5 major cities

the capital city

1 – 2 places of interest (ex. National Parks, tribal areas, historical or religious places, etc.)

a legend that includes all symbols and colors on the map

the equator, Tropic of Cancer, or Tropic of Capricorn if these run through your country

the names of the bordering countries and bodies of water labeled – Bodies of water MUST be colored

  1. Review these reminders as you complete the map:

country names must be written in all capital letters

symbols must accurately match the features (no ☺, ♥, etc.)

outline your country & bordering countries with a black Sharpie (only final copy)

make sure your spelling is correct

use at least 3 different resources to gather your information

oceans, seas, and gulfs should be labeled on your map, but NOT included in your legend/5 physical features

you must use your accurate resources (not just your first draft) when drawing your final copy

organize your legend according to categories (physical features, political features, etc.)

DO NOT color in marker – use a colored pencil or crayon

NO pencil marks – Draw LIGHTLY with your pencil
