Head Coach Report

Firstly, I would like to thank all the volunteers who give their time to help the club run smoothly, as well as poolside teaching and coaching. There are many behind the scenes jobs to be undertaken, all of this help is very much appreciated.

Throughout the season the club has competed in league galas and open meets with varying success.

In our Trophy galas held at Tudor Grange, our Junior swimmers achieved an excellent joint first place with Kingsbury and our Senior Squad finished joint 2nd again with Kingsbury.

At the Warwicks Championships we had fewer swimmers attending due to a qualification rules change, but those who competed performed well.

City of Birmingham was a successful meet with 18 swimmers achieving 64 PBs and 33 medals between them.

For the Coventry and Districts, the club entered 30 swimmers with many swimmers achieving the finals. Laila Elfandi one of our junior swimmers won the trophy for best girl in her age group.

This weekend we had just competed in the Sheffield Open held at Ponds Forge. It was a great competition with many of our younger swimmers attending. Overall we finished 3rd place in the visiting teams - a great finish to the day.

We have had mixed results in our League Galas,in the National League we finished low in the table but are still competing in Division 2.

Mercian League also had mixed results finally finishing in 17th position.

Our junior swimmers have performed extremely well in the leagues especially in the Nuneaton League, were we achieved a well deserved 7th place.

We still maintain our links with City of Birmingham, recently 2 of our junior swimmers have achieved a place on the development squad - well done to Ben Kelly and Megan Nicklin.

Becky Kamau and Caitlin Hubbard have both had a fantastic year,

Among their achievements they both represented the West Midlands Region competing in Luxembourg. Becky also swam in the Commonwealth Games and Caitlin has been selected for the England Development Programme and has competed in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tiblisi. It is great that along with their busy training schedules they find the time to swim for Solihull when asked, we wish them well and continued success.

Congratulations mustalso go to Jake Vincent from our water polo squad who won the Warwickshire swimmer of the year for outstanding achievement. Jake joined the GB squad at the age of 19 and competed in the Olympic Games held in London 2012.

He continues to play for Solihull and also coaches the younger members of the team.

Also, well done to Rachel Davis who won the Young Volunteer of the Year at the Solihull Sports Awards.

I’m looking forward to the swimmers continuing to work hard in the following year, and through this I’d like to see improvements in our league positions and a continued success in open meets.
