Level 1 in Cricket Coaching

Introduction

The Level 1 Cricket Coaching Programme is run in conjunction with the Isle of Wight Cricket Board. The programme, which has been designed by professional cricket coaches, will cover theoretical and practical aspects of sport and coaching, and introduce you to the leisure industry. You will also have the chance to develop practical coaching experience by assisting with community & county cricket programmes run by IW Cricket Board.

Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone who is considering a career in the sport and leisure industry, and particularly in the cricket industry.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must pass an admissions interview, and have a minimum of 3 GCSE’s from D-G or completion of a Foundation Learning Programme. Current College students must have also successfully completed their current functional skills qualification and have demonstrated good levels of attendance. Applicants should also be aware that the course is quite demanding physically.

What will I learn?

This is an opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications in sport, coaching, and the leisure industry. The programme will also cover employability skills, to prepare learners for future careers.

On the Level 1 Certificate in Cricket Coaching (ECB Coaching Assistant) course is aimed at beginner coaches who will be able to ‘assist more qualified coaches, delivering aspects of coaching sessions, normally under direct supervision’.

This role may include running warm ups, cool downs, small sided games and small group work. The course is essentially designed for parents and volunteers starting on the coaching pathway.

The course will help coaches prepare for, deliver and review cricket coaching sessions. It will enable them to:

  • introduce and develop the game of cricket to people of all ages in a safe and enjoyable way
  • develop and improve players (as people as well as cricketers)
  • develop coaching skills, knowledge and qualities
  • demonstrate competence against UKCC/National standards for coaches

You will be assessed by a mixture of written projects and assignments and practical assessment. You will also be required to pass a practical coaching session.

Functional Skills

Your course will include functional skill modules to help you develop these essential skills. You will be assessed, and will attend one of the following modules depending on your personal needs.

  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • English
  • Maths

What can this course lead to?

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to progress onto the Level 2 in Cricket Coaching offered at the College. In addition, successful students will be qualified to conduct amateur coaching for community cricket.

Additional Information

Students 16-18

If you are 16 and under 19 years of age on 1st September in the year you begin your studies your tuition and qualification fee is free, provided you are a resident of the UK or European Community for three years (not on a student visa).

Students 19+

If you are aged 19 or over on 1 September in the year you begin your studies you are responsible for the payment of tuition, qualification fees and course expenses.

Level 2 and Level 3 Entitlement

If you are aged 19 or over and without a full Level 2 (equivalent or higher) qualification then you may not have to pay for your tuition fees. If you are 19, but under 25 without a full Level 3 (equivalent or higher) qualification then you may not have to pay for your tuition fees.
