Aerobatic Contest Check List

Prior to the Contest:

  • BFR and Aerobatic BFR current.
  • LLDA done.
  • Check that your License and Pilot Medical will be current.
  • Check parachute will be current.
  • Check Insurance paperwork to ensure aircraft has proper liability coverage and current.
  • Check Aircraft will be current for annual and 50 hour checks.
  • Check that aircraft has functioning radio and headset.
  • Check that your Free forms (A, B, C) are approved. (This is for Intermediate, Advanced, and Unlimited. Also applies to Sportsman if you have a free program.)
  • Make hotel and car rental reservations.
  • Check the website or Contest Director for any special instructions. Download rules.
  • Practice your Known, Free and some possible figures that may be in the unknowns.
  • Plan you route, check the NOTAMs and make Nav log and fuel calculations, radio frequencies etc.
  • Get mobile phone contact list.
  • Thoroughly check cockpit and fuselage for debris, tools, and threats. Vacuum out the cabin and rear fuselage to prepare for technical inspection.

Take to contest:

  • Flight manual, Airworthiness Certificate,Registration Certificate
  • Maintenance release and daily tech log with sufficient hours for the contest.
  • Weight and Balance documents for your particular aircraft.
  • Proof of sufficient Insurance liability insurance
  • Pilots license
  • Current Pilot Medical
  • Copy of Aerobatic competency BFR
  • Copy of current BFR
  • Low Level Display Approval
  • Chequebook ($$)
  • Copies of your Free Style A,B,C (need 1 copy minimum) ( thenumbers however vary for different contests)
  • NZAC Contest Rule Book downloaded
  • Parachute (and current pack card)
  • Current navigational charts, IPad or IPhone charts updated. Printed airport pages.
  • Life jacket for Straits crossing. Whistle, strobe.
  • Emergency locater beacon.
  • Waterproof bag for phone.
  • Rain jacket or wind breaker.
  • Spare oil and oil filler spout (optional) Windscreen cleaner, Plexus and microfiber cloth.
  • Tool kit, tie down kit.Spare spark plug. Leatherman tool. Small torch,
  • Sun Screen (can be very important when you are sitting out at the boundary).
  • Hat, flying suit,Shorts, collared shirts, jandels, prize giving dinner clothes. Toiletries and medicines.
  • Sunglasses and restraining strap. Reading glasses if applicable.
  • Phone and computer charger. Camera and chargers.
