Regional and Remote Aboriginal Children and Services support unit (RRACSSU) has a position available for a Project Officer, based in Darwin, NT supporting children’s services across the Top End.

The position is responsible for providing professional support to Indigenous children’s services with the aim of developing workforce capacity and skills among Indigenous Children Services practitioners.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The position is responsible for the design, development and delivery of advice, professional development and support to Indigenous BBF (Budget Based Funded) children’s services in urban, rural and remote locations in the Northern Territory. Service design, development and delivery are aimed at developing the workforce capacity and skill. The position will contribute to the development of a collaborative service delivery model between RRACSSU and stakeholders including the funding body DEEWR.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES

  1. Consult with urban, rural and remote Aboriginal community BBF Children’s Services to design, develop and deliver professional development support and advice.
  1. Respond to the needs of urban, rural and remote NT Aboriginal community BBF Children’s Services by designing, developing and delivering a range of flexible and innovative advice and support strategies, via a variety of face to face and distance modes.
  1. Assist with development, implementation and review of resources and related materials.
  1. Work collaboratively with other Children’s Services support programs, and related families and children’s services providers in the delivery of professional development, advice and support to urban, rural and remote NT Aboriginal community BBF Children’s Services.
  1. Actively participate and assist in the development and establishment of new Children’s Services in urban, rural and remote NT Aboriginal communities.
  1. Understand and work with the principles of capacity building and community development relevant to an urban, rural and remote NT Aboriginal community context.
  1. Implement and maintain personal professional development through research and/or other allied activities, such as training development and consultancy in Aboriginal education/Early Childhood discipline related areas.
  1. Maintain accurate and timely reporting to the RRACSSU Coordinator, and Head of Research.
  1. Operate with all colleagues in an online and team based environment, actively encouraging and promoting RRACSSU information and resources.
  1. Operate with IPSP members in an online and team based environment actively encouraging and promoting the use of the IPSP information and resources.
  1. Other duties within the range of skills normally associated with this designation as directed.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  1. Relevant experience as an Early Childhood educator, particularly in the provision of children’s services, and preferably within a rural, regional and remote NT Aboriginal community Children’s Services context.
  1. A tertiary qualification equivalent to 3 years of Higher Education in Early Childhood or other qualifications and experience deemed equivalent, and the Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, or other relevant adult education experience.
  1. Demonstrated knowledge or ability to acquire the same, of Children’s Services in the NT including funding arrangements, support services, resources, industrial award issues and legislation, and the implementation of the national Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Framework and Children’s Services Standards.
  1. Proven capacity to contribute to the development of curriculum and learning resources relevant to the training and support needs in Early Childhood settings including a commitment to the both ways approach to learning.
  1. Able to demonstrate a capacity to work within the social, political and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian communities and organizations in the Northern Territory.
  1. Able to demonstrate the capacity to communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous Australians.
  1. Able to demonstrate knowledge of historical and contemporary issues of importance to Indigenous Australians, particularly in regard to Early Childhood settings in an urban, rural and remote NT Aboriginal community context, or ability to acquire the same.
  1. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, including utilization of Information Technologies as a form of communication.
  1. Demonstrated commitment to undertake professional development activities, including research.
  1. Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory as a light aeroplane passenger, and licensed driver of vehicles on unformed roads.
  1. Must have a C Class License.
  1. Must be prepared to stay in the range of accommodation available to Institute staff on remote communities, including camping out.

Desirable:

  1. Understanding of EEO & OHS requirements.
  1. Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families or other closely related cross cultural experience.
