VA Federal Credit Union Section III

Fargo, ND Policy #6

ADVERSE WEATHER POLICY

1. PURPOSE: To establish policy for administrative leave (Board approved paid time off) and granting excused absence for employees delayed or prevented from reporting to work because of weather.

2. POLICY: By definition, adverse weather may be caused by heavy snow, blizzard conditions, severe icing, flooding, and severe wind chills.

3. ACTION: The Credit Union CEO in consultation with the President of the Board of Directors has the discretion to delay opening the Credit Union, closing the office early, or closing for the entire day. In the absence of the CEO, the President of the Board of Directors and another member of the Board of Directors will have the discretion to make the above actions. If the decision has been made to close the credit union, the employees will be paid for the time Credit Union is closed. All employees will need to complete end of day closing procedures before leaving.

Tardiness, at the beginning of an employee’s shift, of less than one hour may be excused by the supervisor if it is determined that the tardiness was not reasonably avoided. Tardiness, in excess of one hour, must be charged as vacation leave.

If the credit union is open, any employee who is unable to come to work or needs to leave early will have the time not worked counted as vacation. Employees needing to leave early or come in late due to inclement weather should notify the CEO as soon as possible.

All employees are reminded of the importance of having a contingency plan in place should inclement weather occur. Things to consider are alternate routes, alternate transportation, housing, clothing, food, and childcare for extended time etc. These items are the responsibility of credit union employees and preparation in advance reduces stress when inclement weather hits.
