TWO-DAY COURSE

The two-day course runs all day Friday and Saturday, starting at 7:30am both days. All two-day courses include a refresher section on Saturday afternoon. The standard two-day course is limited to 16 two-day students and 8 refreshers. The exception is the January 27-28 course at the University of Utah that runs Saturday and Sunday.

The refresher only course is offered on Saturday morning and has openings for 16 half-day recerts.

Unless otherwise noted, Utah ATLS will use the 9th edition manual until later in the year.

Registration Enrollment is limited to 16 students, 8 refreshers, and 4 auditors. A minimum of 12 students is needed to present the course. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis; registration is not complete until payment has been received. The registration fee includes the ATLS student manual, continental breakfast, and lunch. ATLS Two-Day Student Course

The American College of Surgeons designates this live activity for a maximum of 17.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ATLS Half-Day Refresher Course

The American College of Surgeons designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This course also is approved by the American College of Emergency Physicians for 17 hours of ACEP Category 1 credit for the Student Course and 5 hours of ACEP Category 1 credit for the Refresher Course.

The two-day Student Course runs from 7:30am to 5:00pm on both days. The Refresher Course is scheduled 11:30am to 5:00pm on the second day of the two-day course. Refresher only courses start at 7:30am and conclude by noon. Participants must attend the entire session in order to receive certification.

Note: You may cancel your registration up to five weeks prior to the first day of the course and receive a full refund. Cancellations within five weeks of the course will not receive a refund and registrations will not be transferred to another course. The course may be canceled if less than 12 applications have beenreceived two weeks prior to the course although we have never had to cancel a course. If cancellation occurs, you will receive a full refund and your application will be given first priority should you decide to enroll in another course.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the ATLS course, participants will be able to

1)Demonstrate concepts and principles of patient assessment;

2)Establish management priorities in trauma situations;

3)Initiate primary and secondary management necessary in the first hour of emergency care for acute life threatening emergencies;

4)Demonstrate the skills necessary in initial management of trauma victims.

Course Description

The Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)™ Provider Course combines lectures and practical experience to teach participants to establish priorities and stabilize the critically injured patient. During the two-day course, students will have the opportunity to practice their assessment techniques and their management of simulated patients in a surgical skill practicum. The ATLS course has been specifically designed for the primary care physician.

The student refresher course is a half-day course offered to those who have previously taken the ATLS course. This course must be taken within six months after the expiration of the participant’s ATLS certification. Please include a copy of your current ATLS student card with your registration.

Mid-level Practitioners

Physician assistants and nurse practitioners receive ATLS certification if registering as a student.

Auditors

Anyone may register as an auditor, including nurses and EMTs. Auditors do not receive an ATLS card.

Registration Fees

The fee for two-day students (physicians, residents, mid-levels) is $770. If paying by check, the charge is reduced to $750. The fee for refreshers and auditors is $385; if paying by check, the charge is $375. Please indicate your payment method on your registration
