Advanced Practice Nursing pragram

The College of Nursing provides four Advanced Practice Nursing(APN) programs. These include Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse practitioner, Critical Nurse Practitioner, Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, and Hospice Nurse Practitioner. The MSP programs aim to prepare nurses for advancing their nursing skills and knowledge in order to take key roles as leaders, educators, and researchers.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

This focal area is designed to prepare psychiatric mental Health nurse Practitioner for obtaining professional knowledge, experience, and skills in mental health nursing science. This program focuses on managing mental health, dealing with the complexity of psychiatric problems; promoting health and disease prevention, and providing counseling, education and nursing care for rehabilitation clients and their family members. Graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination to qualify them as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

Critical Nurse Practitioner

This area prepares nurses for advanced practice in critical nursing care of clients with severe health care problems. Nursing research also given to enhancing knowledge of critical nursing. The core curriculum provides students with an in-depth understanding of advanced nursing practice and enables them to apply this understanding to a clinical setting. Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Examination to qualify them as a critical nurse practitioner.

Hospice Nurse Practitioner

This area prepares hospice team members for advanced practice. The program aims to provide nurses with advanced nursing skill and knowledge in order to take key roles as care provider, team coordinators, educators, administrators, researchers, counselors, and evaluator. Emphasis is placed on maintaining “quality of life” for people who need hospice care. Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification

Examination to qualify them as hospice nurse practitioners.

Gerontological Nurse Practitioner

This area provides training and knowledge in advanced elder care. The interdisciplinary nature of geriatric care is reflected in required courses and in the large variety of clinical experiences. Health policy and welfare for elderly care are also presented. Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification

Examination to qualify them as a gerontological nurse practitioner.
