ADVANCED DRAWING & PAINTING

Advanced Drawing & Painting is a year class designed for students who are interested in improving & continuing to build on their skills & understanding of art techniques. Students are able to take this class for two years (art 2 & 3) if their desire is to continue on to AP studio. Design, drawing & painting, lettering & sculpture will be among the areas of study. Mediums to be explored will include pencil, pen & ink, charcoal, tempra, pastel, watercolor & acrylic paint. Specific projects will be assigned to encourage a high level of individual creativity & craftsmanship. There is a $25.00 materials fee to be collected at the beginning of the year to afford students the ability to work with a variety of mediums. There may be the necessity to have students purchase specific &/or specialty items at various times during the year as well.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • students who take this class should have a strong desire to participate & perform
  • students should come prepared with required pencils, pens &/or sketchbooks
  • all school policies regarding tardiness, absences & discipline will be enforced
  • there are no passes from this class
  • food & drinks are not allowed during class
  • students will only work on art in ART class
  • late work will only be accepted due to illness or teacher approval
  • it is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with teacher for missed work
  • incomplete projects or those with NO names will not be graded
  • students are responsible for cleaning up their own work areas & tools
  • students will observe all safety rules along with general common sense when using equipment or tools
  • students must complete over 50% of projects with passing grade to pass this class

GRADING:

* SKETCHBOOKS

*Students are expected to have and keep a sketchbook. This is both homework (outside of classroom) and class work…it will be switched up during the year.

*specific sketch assignments will be given (these change periodically so will not be available on website)however, most will be “still life” vignettes.

*Sketchbooks will be collected at random times each semester—prior to grade reports—these days and times will be given to students and posted in classroom

*Sketchbooks cannot be made up; so please PLAN for them!

*PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS

*all projects will be given a letter grade based on a specific rubric for each project

*rubrics will always include procedures, effort, design, creativity & expression as well as craftsmanship.

*PARTICIPATION/WORK HABITS

  • This is a production class, and students should be continuously working
  • Students who waste time or fail to work (any day for any reason) will lose points thus affecting their weekly working-participation grade
