TASK A. Observation and reflection(60%)DATE DUE: 4th June 2013

You will be assessed on your main lesson book with weekly reflections on

  • aims of schooling
  • the role of the teacher
  • the nature of child development and individual differences in development and learning
  • work for each class –including background notes, child development and lesson material for main lessons e.g. maths, grammar, mythology and drawing and their participation in discussions and study

You will be assessed according to the following criteria:

1. Reflect on the aims of education, the role of teaching and its connection to the understanding of the individual child as a learner. / 1.1 Reflects upon current issues in teaching in context of characteristics and needs of society today and in future

1.3 Correctly identifies he characteristics of the stages of child development and relates to EC, Primary and HS Teaching
1.4 Identifies individual developmental patterns in relation to the use of the senses, expression of the temperament, learning difficulties and giftedness
2. Delineate the aims and key characteristics of Steiner Education. / 2.1 Reflects upon and examines the aims of Steiner Education
2.2 Describes, illustrates and reviews curriculum and methods used to achieve these aims

Task B. School Experience: Summary and evaluation (40%) DATE DUE: 23rd May 2013

  1. Observe and outline the daily rhythm, examples of 2 double pages of artistic presentation of lesson material and a classroom layout and resources. (7pages)
  2. Discuss two pedagogical principles that you observed and two which you used in your own teaching assistance – e.g. transforming the conceptual into concrete, artistic and rhythmic experiences. (500 words)
  3. Write 100-150 words on each of the 4 lower senses (Respond with full sentences/paragraphs).Base your response on the observation of ONE child from your school experience.

Some examples of observations:

Touch:Tom runs his hand along the fences as he walks past.

Life:Sally often says “I’m hungry.”

Self-Movement:Sally can tie her shoelaces.

Balance:Tom easily climbs up the play equipment.

Include the age of the child and the class. For privacy reasons please change the name of the child in your write-up of the assessment task.
