Adult Learners Week grants information and guidelines

Introduction
Adult Learners Week is an opportunity to celebrate and promote lifelong learning. It recognises achievements in and raises awareness of adult education, providing an opportunity for organisations to promote what they do in the wider community.
Special promotional activities run by community organisations are central to Adult Learners Week. Each year the Department of Business (DoB) have four $5000 (plus GST) funding grants available for organisations in the Adult and Community Education sector in the Northern Territory to support these activities. Grants are limited so act quickly.
You can either work as a single organisation or together with another organisation in your area by including them in your application.Joining with other organisations in your community may allow you to hold a bigger event or a variety of activities at the same time.
Funding aims
- To develop and hold activities during Adult Learners Week, 1 – 8 September 2016.
- To enhance community awareness of the role and importance of adult learning.
- To encourage community groups to host local events and activities designed to promote the benefits of adult learning – inthe home, at work and in the community.
- To encourage Territorians of all ages to participate in lifelong learning.
Eligibility
Funding is available to any single or a collaborative of organisations involved with adult and community education within the Northern Territory.
Applications from individuals will not be accepted or considered.
Applications from government agencies will not be accepted or considered.
There are no other eligibility restrictions.
Funding guidelines
Your proposed event must reflect an adult learning activity that is either a special promotional activity, or labels your existing and/or new learning activities as Adult Learners Week activities.
Your proposed event could be any form of adultlearning activity, including (but not limited to) the following:
- courses, classes, lectures,tours, training, tutoring, and discussion groups
- a learning exhibition
- an open day
- an interactive learning display in a shopping centre
- demonstrations or performances
- learning programs – these could include elements of:
- non-accredited training
- accredited training
- vocational assessment
- literacy and numeracy support
- mentoring
- intergenerational learning
- practical assistance to overcome barriers for adults, including non-educational support needs
Note: Organisations will not automatically receive the maximum amount of funding available for their project. An itemised budget must be submitted with the application for funding.
Funding is awarded through an application and selection process.
Assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed according to the extent to which the proposal meets the following criteria:
- meets a demonstrated need within the community
- improves community awareness of the role and importance of adult learning
- learning outcomes can and will be effectively monitored and evaluated
- raises the profile of Adult Learners Week
- encourages Territorians to participate in lifelong learning
- consistent with the national Adult Learners’ Week theme

Assessment of applications
A panel will assess applications to determine the suitability of the proposed activity against the assessment criteria and funding aims of Adult Learners Week.
The Department of Business (DoB) will notify successful and unsuccessful applicants in writing.
Payment of funds
Funded organisations will be paid 100% of agreed budget on acceptance.
Acquittal of funds
Funded organisations must expend the funds as per the project proposal within Adult Learners Week. At the end of the project, the funded organisations are required to complete a project report including a funding acquittal statement signed by an authorised representative of the funded organisation. Any changes to the proposed budget must receive prior approval.

Funded organisations will have the details of their activity automatically added to the online and printed calendars of events. Organisations that do not wish to be listed should make a note on their application.
