Adrian and Anna Shoemaker – Senior Living Services

After living in a large home and rearing three daughters, Adrian and Anna Shoemaker decided the time had come to downsize. To accomplish that goal, the couple moved into a home on the campus of Cumberland Crossings, a Diakon Lutheran senior living community in Carlisle, Pa.

“We don’t have a big house anymore to take care of and it is just freedom,” says Anna Shoemaker, noting the “maintenance-free lifestyle” she and her husband have enjoyed since moving into their home at Cumberland Crossings.

The charming couple now has time to enjoy each other as well as the new friends they’ve made since moving to the community.

Their daughter agrees that the move to Cumberland Crossings was a positive step for her parents.

“My father recognized the fact that living in a three-story home was getting more and more difficult,” says Ann Snyder. “The benefit for my parents is the sense of community. They’ve made new friends; they eat dinner with the community instead of just two people staring across the same table night after night in their home. They’re no longer isolated.”

“It is a different way of life that certainly is very enjoyable and it is exactly what we need,” says Adrian Shoemaker.

Snyder adds that she and her sister now also enjoy a sense of security. “It has given us an awful lot of peace of mind knowing that 24 hours a day, if something would happen, someone is there to help them.”

The Shoemakers primarily enjoy the carefree lifestyle. Remarks Anna Shoemaker: “They even change the light bulbs here!”

Adrian Shoemaker agrees, exclaiming, “No more cleaning gutters!”
