Other reports

Enrollment Report – Dan Preston

Preston discussed said that there is a very fine line between havinge too few students and having too many students when doing admission. The numbers are projected to be:

1748 headcount, which is up from the census of 1656 in 2004.

489 freshman, which is the largest class in history. This is up from 433 in 2004.

394 headcount on the Portland Campus, which is slightly down from 422 last year. That turns out to be a good thing for the facilities that they have, and they are still above the budget number.

3444 credit count for the adult degree program, which is 105% of the goal for the year.

79.4% freshmen to sophomore retention which is slightly down, 6.1%, from 2004

2676 all- college headcount, which is up from 2606 in 2004. This is the largest number Linfield has had since 1998.,

Online Sexual Harassment training – Cindy Homestead

Cindy reported on the new sexual harassment training program. This will be an online training system that should take people about 30 minutes to complete. The system will let Human Resources know when individuals have completed the training. You can find a link to the training from the Human Resources website (www.linfield.edu/humanresources) . The goal is to have a 100% completion of the program for employees by December 1, 2005.

Presidential Search – Bruce Wyatt

Everyone should have just received an email from Eileen Bourassa that the Presidential Search Committee will be meeting with 4 presidential candidates. From those meetings, they hope to invite candidates for on- campus visits. More info will be distributed via email over the next week.

On C-campus Construction projects – Lou Tarney

Tarney reported that the construction of the new Residence Halls has started and they are in the final stages of approval to start the construction of the music building. The east sidewalk on Renshaw Avenue has been closed due to the construction, please walk on the west sidewalk through the project and not in the road.

President’s report

President Henberg wanted to thank all of the campus for the splendid job they did on the new student orientation and registration process. He said he felt like the coach who knew all of the players, but did not have a copy of the playbook. He just had to trust that things were going well, he didn’t have the ability to verify. He did mention that he had yet to receive any complaints about orientation, and that was a good sign.

Henberg also reported that the Board of Trustees had appointed Barbara Seidman as the vice president of for academic affairs, as well as the dean of faculty, which was something that only they could do.

Henberg reported that the executive committee of the board had met and decided what to do with the surplus from the 04-05 budget, which was about $1.5 million. A portion went to the Portland Campus endowment. They were able to completely restore the McMinnville Campus enrollment management fund. Other things that money went to were new furniture for the Portland campus, technology uses on the McMinnville Campus, future planning costs, sesquicentennial celebration, and staff development opportunities.
