Administering MAP Testing with iPads

Before testing begins:

  1. On the computer login to cms-admin.mapnwea.org
  2. Click “Manage Test Sessions”
  3. Under “Saved Test Sessions” search for “Created by ______”
  4. Click the test you want to administer
  5. Click “Test Now”
  6. Look for “Testing Session Name” and “Password” at the top. Provide these for students.
  7. As students join the test session, click “Confirm Now.” Click “Refresh Status” for the most current information.

On the iPad:

  1. Click the link on the home screen for MAP Testing
  2. Before beginning testing, triple Click the home button to ACTIVATE Guided Access. This must be done every time you test a new group of students.
  3. The area at the top should already be grayed out EXCEPT the refresh button.
  4. Click “Start” in the upper right corner.
  5. Have the student login with test session name and password.
  6. From here the student will begin typing his/her name in the box and the name should pop up. Click his/her name and choose “next.” Then confirm the name is correct by pressing “yes.”
  7. Please check that the correct student is signed in on the iPad before “confirming” on the proctor computer.
  8. After students are confirmed on the proctor computer, a “start test” button will show up on the iPad. When students click this button, their test will begin.

Troubleshooting:

  • If the iPad says it’s not connected to the internet go to settings > Wifi > Click CMSSMHH and this will refresh the connection. If it prompts you to “Accept the Certificate” choose “Accept.”
  • If a student’s name is not showing up in the testing session:
  • Make sure this student does not have a separate setting accommodation.
  • If they don’t, click the “add more students” button in the session.
  • Search under all schools for the students first and last name (must be spelled correctly).
  • Click the check mark by the student’s name and click “add student.”
  • Then choose “save and return.”
  • Find the students name on the list and make sure the correct test is assigned. If not click the box by the name and choose “Assign Test.” Find the correct test in the drop down box and choose it.
  • Press the clear button on the student iPad and have the student search for his/her name again.
  • Some errors you may see: “500 Internal Error Message.” “Click F5.”
  • If a question is taking a long time to load or you see another error (e.g.: “500 Internal Error Message,” “Click F5,” “Oops, where is my test window?,” ”UUID Not Available,” No “Next” button, etc.), hit the REFRESH button once on the iPad (the arrows not grayed out on the URL bar) to reload the question. If this doesn’t work or if a student get’s kicked out of a test session:
  • Find out what the students status on the proctor screen is.
  • If it says “completed” the student is finished. Students will also get a message telling them they are done.
  • If it says “testing” or “suspended” the student got kicked out of the session for some reason.
  • If it says “testing” or “suspended” then click the box by the student’s name and under the “Action” drop box, choose “suspend” and click “go.” Then, click the student’s name again, look under “Action” for “test again” and click “go.”
  • Have the student login to the test session again to complete the test. (“Refresh Status” on the proctor computer if needed and “confirm” students when prompted.) After you “confirm” their name a box may pop up, be sure the “resume test” option is selected and click “Submit.”
  • If you get a message that required you to exit the app (because the refresh button won’t work), triple tap the home button and press “Exit” in the corner to end Guided Access (password is ______– do not share this code). Go back to the home screen and click the MAP testing link. Then triple tap the home button again to activate Guided Access again before students’ login to the testing session.
  • When the “start test” button shows up on the iPad the student can begin testing again.
  • If a student needs to leave the test session briefly (e.g.: bathroom) click his/her name and choose “Pause” under “actions”then press “go.” When the student returns to the test click her/her name again and choose “resume”under “actions” and press “go.” If you need to stop the test for a longer period of time (e.g.: lunch) click “suspend” and “go” under “actions” and students will need to login again (see steps 4-7 under “On the iPad” above) when they are ready to finish the test.

After testing:

  1. Students will receive a message when they are done.
  2. Click the “refresh” button on the proctor computer to make sure all students in your class are marked “completed.”
  3. As students finish testing, teacher should exit Guided Access by triple clicking the home button, entering the password and clicking “end.” The password is ______. DO NOT SHARE THIS PASSWORD WITH STUDENTS.
  4. Collect the iPad and put the iPad to sleep (press the power button) before loading iPads back in the cart. Keep an eye out on the charge. If needed (less than 50% power) plug the iPads into the chargers and let Mrs. Long know to charge the cart over night.
  5. When all testing is completed for the day, click “End Testing Session” then choose “Save & Exit.”
  6. Return the iPad cart ______at the end of the day.

Things to remember:

  • Students with accommodations for testing should receive them on this test.
  • Please provide an alternate activity for all students with “separate setting” accommodations.
