Adieu au mois de janvier!
Oh, welcome February!! We hope you will be friendlier to us as the month of January was just too cold!
February is also a very busy time at École Riverside School. We have “I Love to Read Month”, Science Fair, Festival of the Arts, Festival du Voyageur, and Jump Rope for Heart just to name a few of the long list of activities for this month.And don’t forget all you guys that February 14th is Valentine’s Day. Forgetting this day could be hazardous to your health. Have a great month and remember that warmer weather is just over that huge, huge horizon; so keep the faith and keep warm.

I Love To Read Month
Visit new unknown worlds, try to solve a mystery, lose yourself in adventures, find out this about that, what’s in the news today….
February is I Love To Read Month and some of the activities include DEAR (Drop Everything And Read for 15 minutes at any time when announced), Literature Trivia, a bulletin board contest for each class, have community members come in to read a story to a class (and this, of course, includes you if you would like to come in and read to a class
The Hills are Alive…… Recorder Karate
Most grade 3-6 classes have begun recorder for the year! Students are learning through an exciting and engaging program, Recorder Karate! Students will learn songs, each one corresponding with a coloured “belt”. When a song is mastered on the recorder, students receive a new belt to “wear” on their recorder. Students should be practicing their recorder for five minutes a day!
Thompson Festival of the Arts
Registration is now open for Festival of the Arts. Forms are available from Mme Davis (vocal, dance, piano/strings), Mme Squires (visual arts) and Mme Mervat (speech). Deadline for registration is February 24th.

Basketball games for junior high teamsare happening every Monday and Wednesday after school. You are welcome to come and cheer our teams!
The Jump Rope for Heart program will start on the week of February 6th and will run for 5 weeks at lunch time. This is for grades 1 to 6 students. Those joining are expected to fundraise money for the Heart & Stroke foundation. The schedule will be posted shortly on the school web site and on the bulletin board.
Our downhill ski dates are: February 17th for grades 7 and 8 and March 10th for grades 6's.
Also, Mr. Vermette and Ms. Duhaime will run an after school cross country club once a week on Tuesdays or Thursdays, weather permitting. This is for grades 5 to 8 students who are interested.
