Course Aims:

The aims of the VCE VET Building and Construction program are to:

  • Provide students with the knowledge and skills that will enhancetheir employment prospects in the building and construction industry.
  • Allow students to partially complete the Certificate II in Building and Construction pre-apprenticeship program.
  • Provide students with an appropriate pathway into a building and construction apprenticeship.

Selection guidelines:

  • Students should have an understanding that successful completion of this certificate will give creditstowards the modules necessary during a Carpentry Apprenticeship.
  • Students should have an understanding that this certificate will enhance his/her entryinto a Building and Construction apprenticeship, if desired.
  • Candidates must complete a SE LLEN online application form and submit the formelectronically, subject to approval from their parents and VET coordinators.

Pathways:

  • It is anticipated that a participant who has completed the Certificate II in Building and Construction (Bricklaying, Carpentry and Painting and Decorating) Pre-Apprenticeship will be in a position to gain an apprenticeship with an employer inthe building and construction industry.
  • Participants will have nominal training credit based on hours granted in qualifications within the BCG03 General Construction Training Package or theequivalent qualification in the new Training Packages.

Structured Work Place Learning On-the-Job Training:

  • 1st Year 80 hours (recommended)
  • 2nd Year 80 hours (recommended)

VCE Unit Status:

Students will be eligible for credit of up to four VCE VET units towards their VCE: two

units at Unit 1-2 level and a Unit 3-4 sequence.

VCAL Unit Status:

Each 100 hours of nominal hours of modules gained will equal one Industry

Specific Skills Unit at Intermediate or Senior Levels.

ATAR Contribution:

The contribution of the VCE VET in Building and Construction will provide:

  • Students who receive a Unit 3-4 sequence for either of the VCE VET Building andConstruction programs will be eligible for a 10% increment towards their ATAR(10% of the average of the primary four scaled studies)
