Guidance for Pandemic Influenza Planning and Implementation
This information serves as a supplement to the requirements outlined in the letter of agreement between your organization and the McHenry County Department of Health.

Pandemic Plan Guidance
1. Create a pandemic flu plan specific to the needs of your organization.
a. Plan will incorporate information as provided by the McHenry County Pandemic Flu Steering Committee. The McHenry County Pandemic Influenza Steering Committee is finalizing changes to the pandemic influenza planning tools. These will be available via the McHenry County Department of Health preparedness web-site (www.mcdhprepare.info) or CD upon request, at the beginning of November, 2006.
b. Plan will address at a minimum the following topics:
i. Family and personal preparedness
ii. Continuity of operations plan, including:
1. Maintaining critical services
2. Adoption of non-medical interventions
3. Distance learning/working from home
4. Sick leave policy for employees/students
iii. Communications
2. The Health Department encourages working with other organizations within your jurisdiction and within your discipline.
3. Submit one copy of your plan by January 15, 2007, to each of the following addresses:

Creation and Distribution of Pandemic Influenza Educational Materials
1. Create and distribute to your constituents/employees/students an educational brochure or newsletter regarding
Pandemic Flu issues, family preparedness steps, and your plan. McHenry County Department of Health can
provide material to assist with this.
2. The Health Department encourages working with other organizations within your jurisdiction and within your
discipline.
3. Distribute educational materials by March 15, 2007. Send one copy to:

Town Hall Meeting
1. Host a “town hall” style meeting for your constituents/employees/students. The purpose of this
meeting will be to provide an overview of the pandemic threat and inform them of the following:
a. steps the public can take to be prepared
b. The outline of your plan
c. The role of the County Government and Health Department in a flu pandemic
2. Schedule this meeting by January 15, 2007. Notify McHenry County Department of
Health of this date.
3. Hold the town hall meeting by May 15, 2007.
4. The Health Department encourages working with other organizations within your jurisdiction and within your
discipline.
5. McHenry County Department of Health staff will be available to support your organization at the
town hall meeting, as scheduling permits.
Final Report
1. The final report should include the following:
a. The narrative report should be a brief narrative outlining the steps taken to achieve the requirements.
b. The fiscal report should be an itemization outlining how funds were expended.

How Funds Can Be Used
Funds may be used for the following purposes: planning consultant reimbursement; planning meeting expenses; town hall meeting promotion; graphic design and/or copy writing of educational materials; printing.
After you have satisfied the above requirements, you may use remaining funds to purchase hand sanitizers and/or personal protective equipment (n-95 masks, gloves, eye protection).
If you desire to use funds for a purpose other than listed, a written agreement signed by the McHenry County Department of Health Administrator is required.
