Employee Benefits

The Town of Addison offers an excellent benefits package to enhance your quality of life both now and in the future. This summary covers some of the benefits offered to full-time benefited employees. Part-time benefited employees are offered the same opportunities on a prorated basis. This overview is not intended as a contract. Contact the Human Resources Department for additional details.

FOR YOUR HEALTH AND PEACE OF MIND

Health and Dental Insurance

The Town of Addison offers dental insurance and a choice of plans for medical insurance. The Town pays a portion of the overall cost for your benefits. The amount you pay will depend on the choices you make. There is no waiting period for insurance benefits to begin. You and enrolled eligible dependents are covered from date of hire.

Flexible Spending Account

This plan allows you to deduct premiums paid for health and dental insurance on a pre-tax basis. You may also elect to contribute to a reimbursement account for qualified medical and child care expenses on a pre-tax basis through payroll deductions.

Health Savings Account

A special account owned by an individual used to pay for current and future qualified expenses. It is used in conjunction with a high deductible health plan.

Life Insurance

A life insurance policy valued at two times your annual salary, up to a maximum of $200,000, is provided by the Town at no cost to you. Supplemental Life and Dependent Life Insurance is available at a grouprate paid by payroll deduction. An additional life insurance policy valued at your annual salary is also provided by the Texas Municipal Retirement System (see below for additional information on TMRS).

Disability Insurance

The Town provides short-term disability benefits and long-term disability benefits at no cost to you. The short-term disability benefit provides 70% of your regular salary and has a 30-day waiting period for disability payments to begin. If you meet the eligibility requirements, the Town provides long-term disability benefits in the amount of 60% of your regular salary.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Town offers an Employee Assistance Program for you and your family members to provide reference material, confidential counseling and referrals.

Wellness Program and Athletic Club Membership

The Town administers a wellness program through programs throughout the year. Membership in the Addison Athletic Club is available to you for a one time $10 membership fee.

FOR YOUR RETIREMENT

You are eligible to retire from the Town of Addison with 20 years of service at any age, or with 5 years of service at age 60.

TMRS

The Town of Addison participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). In this plan you contribute 7% ofyour gross income, tax deferred. Upon retirement, the Town matches your contributions and interest earned at a rate of two to one, the maximum allowable under the plan. At retirement, you can choose from several distribution options for retirement benefits. Retirement benefits are vested after 5 years of employment.

Deferred Compensation

In addition to the mandatory TMRS retirement system, the Town of Addison also offers an optional Deferred Compensation plan (457) which offers tax savings and additional funds contributed from the Town. After you have passed your initial 6-month trial period, your contributions are matched by the Town at a 2/3 rate, up to a maximum of 4% of your base salary (subject to current legislative maximum contributions). These matching funds are vested immediately.

Social Security

The Town of Addison does not participate in Social Security for benefitted employees.

Medicare

The Town of Addison contributes 1.45% of your salary to Medicare, matching your contribution of 1.45%.

PAID TIME OFF

Holidays

You are given your birthday as a paid day off, as well as 8 other holidays which are scheduled each calendar year. Scheduled holidays include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and Christmas Eve. If you are required to work on a scheduled holiday, you will have the option of accruing the holiday to take another time or receiving additional holiday pay.

Vacation

Vacation leave is accrued from the date of hire and may be taken after 6 months of employment, with approval from your supervisor. You accrue vacation leave for each payroll period in which you have at least one hour of actual work time.Accrual rates are based on length of service. Initially vacation is accrued at a rate of 10 days per year with scheduled increases to a maximum of 4 weeks of vacation earned after 10 years of service. Unused vacation time can be carried over from year to year up to a maximum of two year’s accrual. The Town also has provisions to buy back a portion of unused accrued vacation.

Sick Leave

Sick leave is accrued from the date of hire at an average rate of one day per monthfor an annual maximum of 12 days per year. Sick leave may be carried over from year to year up to a maximum of 120 days. The Town also has provisions to buy back a portion of unused accrued sick leave.

Other Paid Leave

Paid time off is also provided for jury duty, bereavement leave, and military leave, subject to established policies.

OTHER BENEFITS

Longevity Pay

You will earnLongevity Pay of $4 per month of employment after the first 12 months. Longevity payments are issued annually.

Workers Compensation

Coverage for job-related injuries.

Continuing Education

After passing the initial 6-month trial period, you may apply to participate in the Tuition Reimbursement Program which providesreimbursement of tuition and mandatory fees paid for any state college or university credit class in which you have earned a “C” or above. Additionally, the Town rewards your efforts with grade bonuses. The Town also provides necessary job-related training as approved by your supervisor.

Direct Deposit

You may elect to have bi-weekly paychecks automatically deposited to any bank requested.

Employee Meritorious Lunch – Employee of the Quarter Program

Four times a year, all Town of Addison employees are treated to lunch catered by one of the many Addison restaurants. At this time, new employees are introduced, long term employees are recognized, and the Employee of the Quarter is awarded for special service.
