You are invited to attend a workshop designed to bring the most recent thinking on how to incorporate a changing climate into resource management direction.

If you have been wondering what direction to take, this workshop is for you.

The workshop spans two days and covers a wide range of resource management values

  • Wednesday, October 28thand Thursday, October 29th 2015
  • 8:00 to 4:30 each day

Goal of the Workshop:

For practitioners to learn about the options to address risk and assess trade-offs as they emerge. Learn from experts and your peers through formal and informal discussions. You will leave feeling empowered to use a climate change lens in your day-to-day operations and future projects.

The workshop is structured to assist in building relationships with others working to adapt forest management practices, to get a better understanding of the resource values that maybe vulnerable within the Southern Interior, and to understand what options are available to address the vulnerabilities.

Who would benefit from attending?

All those involved in resource management in the Southern Interior of BC.

The workshop will focus on a range of resource management topics including:

  • Our changing climate – a brief overview of what we are seeing, and what to expect
  • Hydrology and water use – what is history, research and our understanding of probable climatic and demographic trends telling us? What can we do?
  • Fire risk and management options – what is history, research and our understanding of probable climatic and demographic trends telling us? What can we do?
  • Species selection
  • Will cover a range of issues surrounding species selection, from ecological guidance, understanding of tolerances, climate based seed transfer, landscape options, the role of the nursery to how to plan and implement.
  • Range management – direction with the lens of a changing climate
  • Cumulative effects – how will all the parts work together?
  • Creating a positive carbon balance – keeping our resources productive and resilient

The workshop will be based on the above topics with presentations, exercises and thought provoking discussion looking for solutions and actions moving forwards. The session will be facilitated by Bryce Bancroft of Symmetree Consultants.
