Applications are being invited for a position with the Corporate Actuarial Services team in our Moncton, New Brunswick office as an Actuarial Business Analyst reporting to the Team Leader, Corporate Actuarial. As a member of the team, you will play a significant role in ensuring that the company’s objectives for profitability are achieved. You will work closely with members of the Finance, Actuarial Pricing and Group Underwriting teams, participating in such activities as:

  • Budgeting and measuring underwriting contribution for Medavie’s group and individual blocks of business;
  • Analysis and monitoring of the profitability of group and individual business;
  • Development, calculation, and analysis of monthly and year-end actuarial reserves;
  • Preparation of the Minimum Continuing Capital Surplus Requirement;
  • Working with our Appointed Actuary in the preparation of the Appointed Actuary’s report and the Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing report;
  • Preparation of all management information reports relating to underwriting margins;
  • Calculation of Large Group client financial reports;
  • Managing the organization’s need for, and negotiation of reinsurance;
  • Completion of industry surveys linked to financial results
  • Various ad hoc analysis and research projects.

Qualifications and Competencies for this position:

Knowledge: University degree in Actuarial Sciences, or one of the following degrees coupled with 3 completed SOA exams: Business, Commerce, Finance, Mathematics or Accounting;

Knowledge in database query tools such as Discoverer, Query Builder, SQL along with a superior knowledge of Excel;

Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: with high attention to detail, and proven mathematical skills, looks beyond the obvious and can solve difficult problems with effective solutions;

Execution/Organizational Skills: Ability to work in a demanding, fast paced environment and to establish priorities;

Communication: proven written, oral and listen skills, tailoring information and delivery to suit the nature of the material, audience and situation;

Customer Orientation: Understanding the clients needs and focused on ownership and project accountability;

Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude and ability to work in a group or independently.

Most of the work will be performed and communicated in English. However, bilingualism will be considered an asset.
